I'd like to see Sky re-vamp the Fibre product and just have an 80/20 product (up to 76Mbps/19Mbps) for 20 a month to compete with PlusNet.

I'll be watching carefully to see what happens in the FTTC market over the next 3 months!

      I agree.

It will be interesting to see what BT do with their Fibre pricing as well, although Infinity 2 is already cheaper than Sky Fibre Pro. Obviously there is the whole throttling for downloads issue that is important for serious downloaders but I would guess most customers aren't downloading 300GB+ a week so it isn't really something that affects the majority.

All the UK telephone exchanges are being targeted for upgrades to Fibre. This is something which has already happened whether the exchange is large or small.

There are some 5,600 telephone exchanges. Today there are some 1,322 exchanges which are enabled for FTTC or FTTP. This is set to increase to cover 2/3rds of the UK by Spring 2014.

Openreach - Superfast fibre broadband - Where and when

Sky have installed their kit in 2,117 exchanges now, but do typically target the larger exchanges, which is a similar pattern to the other LLU providers.

SamKnows - Sky / Easynet LLU

The wording above about BTO's target is a quote from the page I have linked to. Whilst they are upgrading exchanges of all sizes, there is an implication that they will more easily achieve the target by targeting the large exchanges. However there are many smaller ones which are already active for Fibre broadband.

This roll-out will continue with a European target of 100% having access to speeds in excess of 30mb, with 50% subscribing to services 100mb and more.

      http://ec.europa.eu/information_soci...munication.pdf

Since ADSL2+ cannot support these speeds, it means that everyone will have to use either Fibre or Cable by 2020.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Talking Re: Bye bye Sky just bought fibre for 26 per month :-)

      Ive just signed up to Plusnet fibre/ phone calls, got what i think is an excellent deal, which sky could not unfortunately match details are;

      Unlimited Fibre 19.99, discounted to 9.99 1st 6 months
Line rental paid up front 125,
      Anytime calls 4.00,
i will be paying 13.99 for first 6 months then up to 23.99,
also get 70.70 cashback through cashback site, my estimated speed is 52mbps down, and 13 mbps up.
Sky could only offer me 3 months half price fibre optic with estimated speed of 40mbps down, and 8mbps up.

Will look forward to speed increase from 3.3mbps to 52mbps

I was thinking of signing up for Plusnet myself but the heavy traffic shaping put me off. P2P being limited I can live with, usenet no.

Service seems to be very good since being taken over by and run as a subsidiary of BT.

I think I read somewhere that Infinity 2 is FTTP rather than FTTC? If so it's going to be limited to a relative few.
