Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
The note on the UKOL site indicated that one should phone Sky to arrange the transfer or for them (that is Sky) to provide a MAC if you wanted to move elsewhere. They would of course struggle to give a MAC if they couldn't find any record of me. Of course armed with the MAC supplied by UKOL I could have gone to Sky, but I suppose that after three abortive calls I had rather lost confidence in Sky, especially as the few dealings I have had with UKOL were always dealt with effectively and in a way the indicated they knew what they were doing.

Hi at least you have a few ISPs with LLU.
AOL: Enabled
C&W / Bulldog: Enabled as of 25/05/2007
Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 16/05/2007
TalkTalk (CPW): Enabled
Which LLU (Local Loop Unbundled) is your choice as long as you remember it is alway`s better using The ISPs own Equipment.

Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
Let me get this straight. Your ISP is UKOL and they told you to phone Sky and ask for your MAC. I am sorry but I find that very hard to believe and if it is true, then it is UKOL you should be blaming, not Sky. How on earth could an ISP you do not have an account with give you a MAC? I think you have misread the instructions or UKOL have given bad advice. The others who have moved over do not seem to have had your problem..

Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
I am moving to Sky from UKOnline. Active date set as 23rd Nov.
There seems to have been a bit of a muck up on the website msg on UKOL tho as it states that Sky will provide you with a MAC when of course they (UKOL) have to (unless they've changed it). When I rang, Sky told me that UKOL had to provide MAC, which they did first thing on Monday and I rang back the number I was given by the guy at Sky with the MAC. Got a txt msg from Sky next day telling me I would be active a week later followed by a letter with User ID; cannot argue with that.
Today received my Router Sagem F@ST 2504 SKY v3.1, shame it's not N but cannot have everything. Have a couple Netgears here, a DGN2000 which is a bit flaky and DG834G v3 which has performed well over the years. Probably flog em on the bay but see how Sagem does first.
I realise that Sky as Broadband will be a bit of a nightmare to deal with compared to UKOL, but even they had their moments, not least with the VAT debacle. Still at least first 6 months of Sky BB will be free.
Fingers crossed it all works from here on in..

Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
I can see how that would confuse someone who did not know what a MAC was and how it is obtained. So much for UKOL's faultless service. There seems to have been a bit of a muck up on the website msg on UKOL tho as it states that Sky will provide you with a MAC

Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
This is a direct quote from the now home page for UKOL
"To get more details about this great offer and to switch to Sky Broadband, all you need to do is call 08442 410 532 and let them know you're a UK Online Broadband customer. This offer is available with or without Sky TV. Alternatively you can choose to go to another broadband provider. You may be asked for a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code), so to get yours call 08442 410 532 quoting UK Online."
Hope that's OK to post. The numbers should obviously be different and UKOL are aware as a Tech advised me they had raised this. Just means the same work for the customer but their attitude will be more anti-Sky which seems a shame as it's a good offer.

Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
The statement given by Sky and quoted by think broadband was also vague and seemed to imply that Sky could move you over without a MAC and that a MAC would only be needed for moving to anybody erlse but Sky.
Sounds like a Sky muck up that just has been copied over to UKO's webpage.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

Re: Moving from Ukonline to Sky
Update:
The 0800 UKO number has an automated message on it saying that Sky are now issuing MAC codes and arranging transfers over to Sky and UKO are only giving billing and technical help now.
I reckon that UKO have now been swamped by MAC code requests and Sky have now had to take over the whole absorption process.I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
