Now why on earth does that not surprise me. Sky really do need to control this. It's really quite simple to resolve.

No one at Sky on the incoming calls side, who gets a request from the customer to cancel or for a MAC should have the authority to commit to either option via a computer screen.

What they should do, is pass that caller's details to a competent person, who is trained, (even if it was in retentions, it doesn't really matter) to then call that customer, to find out why they want to leave or cancel and possibly try to resolve any issues etc.

That person, after having understood what the caller wants to achieve, then requests via the computer a cease or a MAC - Simples.
That's why I tend to recommend using the Kana form instead. At least with this you can make it very clear in black and white that all you want is a MAC, you do not want to cancel.

      Re: Mac Key

Using the Kana is an excellent idea. However what is the most puzzling, is how on earth anyone can interpret a request for a MAC as a request to cease your broadband.

Once this happens, there is then the potential for a very long period of downtime for the customer. I guess my point is, if a person wants a MAC then Sky or any other ISP has possibly done something to upset that customer. It just doesn't make sense at all to make matters an awful lot worse.

I cannot belive that Ofcom hasn't looked into this as Sky is quite happily flaunting the rules as far as migration is concerned.

As for training, some bean counter has done some cost/benefit analysis.

I would assume that their analysis has shown that they are not losing as much custom as having a decent level of customer service would cost.

Now if O2 were to start doing TV services........

Re: Mac Key - Got it !!!

Well it never turned up by email in 48 hours as promised so rang them again last night before I went out and blasted them. After another 20 mins on hold I got through to an Asian woman who proceeded to give me the MAC. Unfortunately her English was atrocious and I had to make her use the phonetic alphabet to understand.
Given 02 the mac now and my router is on its way and will be connected on the 15th.
What an unnecessary saga that turned out to be.
