The problem in the UK, is that the majority of people blame the ISP for poor speed when the actual culprit is the owners own internal wiring.
They get blamed because their support in routing out the problem is atrocious. I'm a US visiting forces member here in the UK and rent my residence. I do think the wiring could be an issue, but is it my place to fix the landlords home? We both know the answer, but I will get one of my telephone line specialists to come out to my home and rewire the line. They've already done it to other homes with success. A case of beer and my line will be brand new. Hopefully that fixes my issues.

I assume you're talking about one of these: http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/images/52a.jpg

If you can wire a plug then you'll find it no problem replacing it with a new NTE5a master socket, in fact it's easier. Be aware though, there are legal issues with tampering with the incoming BT line, ie, you're not allowed to, however that doesn't really stop people from doing so.
That's exactly what I'm talking about, only that one is pristine compared to mine. Is that even needed or can the line go straight in the house to the Master BT socket?

Of course it isn't.... but is it the ISPs job to sort out your Landlord's poor wiring? We both know the answer.

I appreciate your situation I really do, but it is not Sky (or any ISP that you happen to chose) to fix your internal wiring. It is either BT if the wiring problems are on thier side of the box, or your landlord's if the issues are on his side of the box.

I know it's difficult, but it's not your ISPs job to make sure your wiring is the best it can be.

It's a junction box that's all. Typically, in older installations, the incoming BT pair would be wired to this first and then on to subsequent sockets, including the master. It can be done away with altogether.

Then I'll do away with it.

No it's not, but it is their job to at least have the knowledge to troubleshoot down to that level. I'll fix the wiring and see if it's that.

And that they have. They have identified that the problem is not with them. Why should they do anymore.... the problem could be anything on your side.

Of course, I am guessing from the limited information in your posts as this thread is about US vs UK internet performance and has no detail of your actual problem and what Sky has done so far to help resolve it.

Hi as you say a crate of beer is it the good old Bud and plate sized Steaks I have been to a few U.S. Naval bases abroad and remember the lunch of plate size Steaks seconds if wanted and bottles of bud to wash it down memories. I would do that and they will be able to see and do what they can also give you info on U.K. ISPs

If doing a speed test use the Bt speed test Bt Updated Speed Tester have a look on the link all the information needed there to do the test

Whatever they drink and steaks if they wish. I always have a few Ribeye steaks in the freezer. Personally I prefer a pint of Guinness though.

No, I found the rats nest of wires myself by reading other posts on this forum. Sky has done little to nothing for me. I've answered the same questions twice for them now regarding my set up and router stats. I'm stuck in a continuous loop with them. There have been three different occasions where they told me they would call me within 72 hours and nobody has ever called me since I opened my trouble ticket with them in August.
