      Just got this from sky...

      Hi Marcus,

Thank you for contacting Sky Help Centre.
Upon checking your line I reconfigured your speeds.
Your new speeds are as follows.

      Port Status Up
Trained In Download Speed 18042 Kbps
Trained In Upload Speed 984 Kbps
      Configured Download Speed 20480 Kbps
      Configured Upload Speed 1312 Kbps
Max Attainable Rate Down 20216 Kbps

Please continue to monitor your speeds over the next 72hours.
To check the speed that you are currently receiving please use the following steps:-
      Open a new browser
Type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar
      The Username is admin
      The Password is sky
At the bottom of this page click on Show Statistics
In the new pop-up screen it will show you your current connection speed. It will be labelled Downstream Speed
The speed shown is in Kbps. To get an approximation of your speed in Mbps just divide the number by 1000 (i.e. 7642Kbps becomes 7.6Mbps approx).

I hope this information has helped with your enquiry. If you require any further assistance, you can respond to my email.
You can also contact our Customer Services team on 08442 41 41 41, where one of our advisors will be happy to help.

      Kind regards

This is a little odd as the Noise Margin hasn't significantly increased this time
The have improved though, I think you are getting the maximum you can on your line now, the problem you have is that the last stats you did showed a NM of 6.1db which is below Sky's default limit so you could see the router reset with a slower speed to increase the NM up to 6.9db.

By keeping the router in the test socket or fitting a filtered faceplate you should see the speed that you are currently getting or maybe even a little more.

Re: Sky - are they capping?

Yes good point. I have now put the router in the test socket and will leave it there for a 2-3 days to see if it holds out....

Re: Sky - are they capping?

I've had the router stats up all day and unfortunately the connection has dropped a few times. I would imagine that Sky will now reduce the speed accordingly. Would be happy to plug into he test socket for a few days but that will obviously rule out the phone which is fine by me but not so good for the missus!

Re: Sky - are they capping?

Plug a filter into the test socket and then you can have the router and the phone plugged in.

Buy a filtered faceplate now and then you can have everything back to normal when it arrives.

Thanks for all your comments. Still at 2.4mb and no connection drop today. Not yet spoken to Sky but should this happen again at least I have a better understanding of what's happening

Re: Sky - are they capping?

I called Sky today over poor service and as the recorded voice was telling me how great Sky is and getting better all the time (Oh really?), she said that Sky don't mind how much you download. They place no limitation on your downloading. I guess that means quantity rather than speed, but whatever it means, the reality seems different.
