its not like sky are giving you a 2mb connection is it?

What's wrong with him wanting to get the best speed his line can give? Not only that what's wrong with expecting customer service to have an understanding what needs doing when there is a problem and not just fobbing people off?
I am very happy with Sky and have not had any real problems since joining them, when I have spoken to CS they have been helpful and knoweldgeable but that does not seem to be the case with the OP, maybe it's the information he is giving or the questions he is not asking, who knows.

the above is just an obsevation

I picked IANTE's post because it seemed sarcastic, also he works for Sky so I would have hoped he would have been more sympathetic and maybe offered some useful information or advice.
I have found some of his posts in the past helpful and informative.

Re: Bye Bye Sky
Not sure if this is the best thread to tag this on here, but I'll ask it anyway.
It seems that a number of the threads like this state that with ISP(A) I get this speed, but with sky I get a lower speed. The original poster stated that Sky claimed his line wouldn't support faster speeds, but his new ISP connects at a lot higher speed, presumably meaning that the line and equipment can provide that speed. So to the question,
What is the desiding factor - I assume that the standards for ADSL, ADSL2+ etc are the same, and if connected by the same pair of wires should give the same performance irrispective of which ISP is providing the service.
I'm lucky enough to be close to the exchange, with a claimed (from Sky) max capability of 21MB, and (so far) have been happy enough with the CS from sky when I needed it, and given the price I was paying at Virgin for 4MB feel it offers good value for money.

I moved to Sky LLU because they offered cheap broadband and at the time were the only adsl2+ provider in my area. However things soon went pear shaped.
Initially I got a 16mbps connection, but sky almost imediately turned off the adsl2+ and I was on gdmt. I called tech support and was told my line wouldn't take 2+, despite the fact it had been working fine. I convinced them to turn it back on but they changed my profile so I could only sync at 13mbps. Which was fine. Then one day I was back to gdmt only. I have spent hours on the phone trying to convince Sky to give me 2+ but they insist my line won't take it. Recently however things have been getting bad and my connection particularly on the upload had become unusable. I decided Sky had pushed me to far so I have moved to Be*. Guess what I plugged my router in and what do I get 19mbps down 1.2mbps up. All working fine. hmmmm but I thought my line couldn't handle 2+. Sky are a joke.
Also when I tried to move they gave me a MAC number and then told me I would need to give a months notice and then it would be 10 days before the tag would be removed from my line (40 days). I asked them what the MAC number was for and was told by the lady she knows what MAC numbers are for and it would take 40 days. Well in under 10 I'm on Be. Someone should point her to the Sky website page which covers MAC numbers.
bye bye people.

Your story mirrors the exact same problems i've been having with Sky, it got to a point where my upstream speed was syncing at 301kb when it should be 768kb.
Anyway after being told that my speeds are normal by a tier 1 agent who refused to acknowledge that i have a fault, i am currently in the process of migrating to Be.

Re: Bye Bye Sky
well i am leaving, absolutely disgusted with sky and the level of service it is providing
in the last 3 months my router has been dropping its connection on average 3 times a night, my connection is shocking can't download (not torrent files) normal stuff or play games during the evening. i currently download at 24k a second from microsoft or any site for say game patches.
i have been through everything with them, they have replaced the router, blamed the sky+ box, blamed micro-filters etc.....
not once have they spoken to bt and checked the line? it seems there must be an oversubscription on the exchange or something and what do i get from sky absolutely nothing....

Re: Bye Bye Sky
Ditto...I've been with Sky since within about 6 weeks of them announcing broadband. I used to be with Nildram and that went from excellent to poor after being bought by Pipex (I think it was Pipex...memory isn't what it used to be).
I went straight for Max, even though I knew I would never come close to their top speed but on average I would get 3 - 3.5 meg.
Then about 8 months ago the router went belly up and would only connect at 512k after trying for an hour or more to sync. Tried an old 3Com I had lying around and although it was still only connecting at 512k, it did so within the normal kind of time frames.
Having spoken to Sky - and spending over an hour to first line support who wanted me to ping the router (but couldn't understand that I don't leave them at the default admin password or IP range), wanted to know repeatedly what OS I ran (which blew him away, as I have a mix of Windows XP, Vista, 2003, 2008 and CentOS...) I eventually lost my temper and demanded to be put through to a higher level of support.
They immediately arranged for a replacement router, and explained - as I suspected - that they'd capped the line due to the behaviour of the router whilst it was failing.
Got the new router very quickly - within 48 hours. I plugged it in, and called Sky support back...and I was told that my line would not, and could not support higher than 1meg...
I even have a very sarcastically worded email telling me that they had lifted the cap, but I could expect to have a lousy service, as I was unfairly demanding that they provide a service beyond the one my line has been capable of, and that despite my sending a screen shot of earlier speeds (from a time when I was showing a colleague the speed improvements from Nildram) that I was lying...I near blew my stack there and then and asked for a MAC, but counted to ten slowly and reasoned that since the service has been reasonable and I've had to have very few dealings with support that I'd write it off.
The lack of a static IP has always bugged me, as I run a web server, mail and voice server (for the record, I always register with Heart Internet, and use their control panel to point the name servers to use DNSExit (and register the domain name with them) with a dynamic client set to update every minute and this allows me to have my own domain name instead of those god awful domain.dyndns addresses).
But I digress.
Then I hear about how Sky are putting up the price of their broadband and to top it off, I've been having multiple disconnects a day over the last week or so, where the router just loses it's connection to Sky and can take upwards of 10 minutes to reconnect.
So Sky, enough is enough. Since I bought my wife an iPhone for Christmas last year, I have an O2 account which means I can get business broadband with a free static IP address for just over a couple of quid more than my new Sky price will be.
I've already requested my MAC from Sky and frankly, if they play silly buggers and don't send it to my by text within the promised 48 hours, I'll cancel my TV package too (full package including movies, sports and a multiroom subscription).
So, Sky...all for the sake of poor support, a service that seems to be reducing in reliability coupled with a ridiculous take on looking after loyal customers (joined in the last 6 months? No increase in broadband...been with us over two years? F*** you).
I'll post how I get on with O2, but the reviews that I've read thus far look promising.

Nildram were bought by Pipex who were then bought by Tiscali, hence the problem.
I moved from Nildram over a year ago and have been happily surfing with 16Mb ever since, although that wont help you
