      Want a chuckle?

      Well ...

Within this week, my landlord has told me he's going to sell the house and I need to move within 3 months. Joy!

I live within spitting distance of the exchange. Which has meant my connection is:
      DownStream Connection Speed 23999
      UpStream Connection Speed 1256

But because I'm direct connection to the exchange, I haven't been able to get Sky Fibre ... while the rest of the town has been enjoying rapid intarwebz!

So, yesterday I was heading out and spotted a green cabinet right next to the BT Exchange! "aaah" I thought, I reckon I know what that is for.
Today I spotted two OpenReach engineers ... one sat in a roadside hole, the other sat on his stool patching lines into the new cabinet! So I nipped over and apologies for disturbing him. He confirmed that they were migrating all the Direct Exchange connections to FTTC.

It's fantastic that they are doing it ... but shame I get to miss out! DOH ... talk about timing!

      Ouch!

If it helps, more and more people now look at what the potential Internet speeds are when they move. Do use the BTW site and VM too to see what is possible when researching.

I think you've been looking over my shoulder again Scubbie!

When I moved here, I used RightMove to find houses, and then immediately onto SamKnows to check out the exchanges and the distance to the exchange. This place is/was fantastic being less than 100m away.

In fact after moving, and also turning down some houses due to 0.1Mbps speeds ... I emailed RightMove to explain that lots of people now work from home and they should perhaps look to incorporate that data. Lo and behold, this time around, there's a "Check your broadband at this address" link. Might be a coincidence, but I like to think they followed up on my email

      Re: Want a chuckle?

I recall reading something some time back that more and more people are looking at the potential connection speeds when they are looking to get a new home, so you are far from being alone there.

Other things which can be useful are sites that show crime rates, public transport and even risk of flood. All of this can be checked on-line.
