Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
Hello,
I am thinking of going over to Sky My DL is usually around 2Mbps with Fast but if I can get around this speed or slightly better for a lot less a month then I will be happy.
My figures just taken now are as below
TypeFast Path StatusShow TimeDownstreamUpstream Data Rate (kbps)1856 448 Noise Margin (dB)7.520.0 Attenuation (dB)56.3 30.5 Output power(dbm)18.4 12.2
I have had trouble with the line over the last few days and it is finally getting up to where it normally is. With the figures above should I expect the same DL speeds or slightly above?
Thanks
Jim

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
I would think on ADSL2+ you should get 3-4+ Mb and a better upload speed. If Sky LLU is not available in your exchange, don't even consider Connect as you will probably be worse off than you are.

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
Thanks for the reply,
Yes Sky on LLU is available on my SLHLG exchange. There is only Sky and Talk Talk available on LLU on this exchange. I have researched regarding connect and I have a written reply saying I will be going onto LLU, so saying this I should slightly improve my line speed going on LLU with sky? Also would Talk Talk be the same speed as Sky?
Thanks
Jim

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
You should get a slightly better speed with Sky as you would do with TalkTalk.

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
Hi my router should be here tomorrow and I have a changeover date for this Friday. Do I just install the router and let it do its thing? Do I put this in after midnight on Thursday or maybe in the morning before leaving for work.

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
When your existing broadband drops out, plug in the Sky router and you should connect in about 30 minutes. There is no need to install any software and if you have any installed for your existing router, make sure it is removed.

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
Thank you Isitme for your reply connected with Sky now and already showing a better speed. Not expecting much I have never had a good speed. I have a question please.
I was going through the pages on the Sky router and I came across Managed DNS | Outsourced DNS | Anycast DNS The password and username in the boxes were what I had with my previous ISP supplier is this the norm and do I need to use this?

Re: Thinking of going over to Sky- thoughts please
I am not familiar with the router you are using, but normally these are blank and have to be filled in and saved by the user. You only need this if you want to contact your network from a remote connection. DynDNS.org is the only one which can be entered in the router, but you can use any dynamic DNS you wish. The password and username in the boxes were what I had with my previous ISP supplier is this the norm and do I need to use this?
