Exclamation What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

Hi I am not sure if I am asking the correct question. I think I am right though. At present I have sky base with LLU - ie I have sky talk line rental and broadband. On using maccode.co.uk they say this for a switch..... ( ignore the links it is copied and pasted)-

The local loop unbundling has become popular in UK. There are more than 3.5 million local loop unbundled broadband lines in the UK, that still grow. The providers install their own equipment in the local BT exchange that make them free from leasing the line. The savings are passed on to the user in the form of “free broadband” by providers like TalkTalk (Unlimited Broadband Packages: Broadband and phone packages | TalkTalk). However the different types of technology used in LLU connections make it difficult. when the user wants to switch back to the BT network and back to a standard ADSL provider. The user won’t get a seamless switch as is the case of using a MAC code between two ADSL providers.

Ofcom is working on an LLU-MAC code scheme which is voluntary at present. This scheme, at present, applies only to the partial LLU, where the broadband but not the phone line has been unbundled as in the case of a Be Broadband (www.BeThere.co.uk) connection. If a reconnection of broadband is to be effected after disconnection one has to pay a cease and re-provide fee of £58.75. For reconnection of both broadband and standard telephone line, from an LLU provider, the fee to be paid to BT may go up to £124.99. Experience shows that some customers have found themselves being charged by two different providers, after they followed the wrong process and their old contract wasn’t properly cancelled. Although Ofcom has tried to make the switching process easier, it is found very difficult to get correct information on how to switch provider. Hence it is always better to consult both the provider that you are leaving, and your new provider on which process to follow and finalise the switching process.

DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO PAY APPROXAMATELY £60 IF I SPEAK TO BOTH PROVIDERS AND DO I SPEAK TO SKY FIRST.
AND EXACTLY HOW AND WHAT DO I SAY ? I am fully expecting sky to give me the wrong advice and also orange are most likely going to give me the wrong advice. Moving from LLU to another LLU has the potential to be problematic as with anyone.

      Can you help ?

Do you advise people sometimes with website links that shows the steps to take so I can persuade the customer service teams correctly? Orange have already told me I will be charged twice. I think they said something like a disconnection and re-connection charge applied. Orange did tell me to wait a month as it was going to become easier for all people to change broadband providers. I have waited 2 months for a call back from them as they have me on some sort of list so I do not have to be charged so much when switching. What I am saying might make no sense to you proabably. Can anyone help? I am with sky LLU and want to move to Orange LLU. I can do this from what orange tell me.

      Thanks.

Re: What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

When I went from Sky LLU to o2 LLU and then back to Sky LLU all I asked for from each ISP was a MAC and there was no charge whatsoever.

I would personally stay with Sky rather than go with Orange if it were me though.

Good luck if you decide to change.

Re: What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

I am getting this page and information from maccode.co.uk - MacCode.org.uk - Check Mac Code
The link above enables me to shown I have a mac code already. Once my phone and postcode are entered it says this-

Good news! There exists an easy way to migrate from Sky to Orange using a mac code.

Simply call Sky on 0844 2410515 and ask for your mac code. After you get your mac code, signup for Orange using the links below and tell them your MAC code.

SO YOU MAY BE RIGHT. If I however I click on the right hand page menu from the link page above where it says LLU I get the other information I posted above. So which information is correct ?

Should I pay or not pay ?

      Thanks

Bear in mind, it looks like that site is using affiliate links and so they would get a commission if you click on their links etc

Unless you are changing phone numbers from Sky to Orange, I am failry sure you should not be charged, although you maybe - You would be best speaking to Orange to see if they would or look at their T and C's

Normally if you complete the minimum contract, then I cannot see why you would be charged.

Re: What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

Orange told me that they wanted to avoid changing my phone number if they could but I would probably have too. I did not request a line change of any kind. Does any one know if there is a independent mac code checker ? -as they are working as affiliate website like you say.

Its just so frustrating as I spoke to orange and they say I need to pay to do other things as soon as I use the words- sky broadband and I that I have sky talk too. I have not yet spoken to sky. Perhaps if sky just need a mac code in my case I can take this to orange and orange will then get it all of a sudden. I want orange line rental and orange broadband instead, have I been asking you the right questions ? I need to move from sky talk and sky broadband to orange broadband and orange line rental as this is the cheapest way long term. Do you understand where I am coming from.

Many thanks and sorry I should have explained my 'needs' as aposed to what I thought I already have in terms of bundles.

Re: What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

Why not speak to Orange and tell them you are on Sky Talk and Sky Broadband, and if they would move your phone similarities from Sky to Orange and then the broadband for free, then they have a deal?

If you are on Sky Talk, and a BT line, then you should be fine to swap the Sky Talk back to BT and then the broadband from Sky to Orange, but you would need to find the exact cost from Orange if any.

Any website (affiliate or not) can only go by the data that was correct when that webpage was produced, things may have changed and prices not updated etc

Are you with BT or Sky for line rental?

If you joined after 1st September 2011 then you would normally have to have Sky Line Rental to get Sky Broadband.

Have you spoken to Sky cancellations to see if they would offer you a better deal if you were going to change to Orange?

Maybe worth a try at ringing Sky and saying that you would like your MAC and see if they offer you a better deal?

You can pay upfront for Sky Line Rental for 12 months and receive a discount as well afaik

I don't think Orange LLU actually exists now does it? I thought Orange had ditched their own LLU service/product and moved everyone onto an Orange branded standard BT ADSL/ADSL2+ based package? Sure I read this somewhere?

Re: What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

tbh I really don't know the honest answer, I have never had Sky Line Rental.

      Looking at Orange's Website,

      https://broadband.orange.co.uk/home?...ach_homebbcore

The Line Rental is £13.50 per month
The Broadband ranges from £5 and then £10 and then £15 per month
If you do not have an orange phone then you pay an extra £5 per month on those prices

Prices quoted are for customers on Orange pay monthly and pay as you go mobile plans living in an Orange Broadband network area, which covers 85% of all UK homes. For non-Orange customers, an additional £5 a month will be charged. Orange customers living in non-Orange Broadband network areas will be charged an additional £10 a month. Non-Orange customers living in a non-Orange Broadband network area will be charged an additional £15 a month. Ten day provisioning relates to our Broadband service only. Home Phone service provisioning can take up to 20 days.
If you are comparing Sky Base / Everyday lite (free per month and upto 2GB download allowance) to Orange's Broadband and Off Peak Calls, then surely it is cheaper to stay at Sky and upgrade to Unlimited at £7.50 per month if you do not have an Orange phone.

I have just spoken to an online advisor at Orange.

Re: What cost is switching from LLU Sky to an Orange LLU ?

It seems they might have started the Orange branded standard BT ADSL/ADSL2+ based package? I last spoke to orange 2 months ago. I think you are probably right James as I mentioned that they put me on a waiting list for this (that assuming it is on the same thing they told me to wait for and it be free). They were not talking about the MAC. Can I still ask for a MAC now I have told you I am on sky line rental and sky broadband. I will google your words- Orange branded standard BT ADSL/ADSL2+ based package?
Thanks newsreader for helping me out by speaking to orange chat that's very kind of you indeed. I am not a watcher of live TV so I am ditching my TV license and going with lovefilm etc etc so I will save alot as I already have orange mobile and no longer need sky TV.

I have to re-tune my tv to pick up no channels by pulling out the aerial before doing so. Do I have to change any computer settings that could be picked up by a TV licensing checker. I am aware I need to make sure I no longer watch any live feeds on tv or computer or record them.

      Thanks.
