      SkyUser Exchange Checker

We now have a SkyUser Exchange Checker for checking what ISP's have their own LLU kit in your telephone exchange.

In simple words, Sky uses LLU for most of their broadband packages, hence why Sky can offer cheaper prices for broadband.

If Sky or any other ISP has no LLU presence in your exchange, provided that you are presented with an BT ADSL Max package, you should be able to signup to Sky's Connect package, (or other ISP's equivalent) which is normally up to 8meg download speeds.

Clarification of Sky's Broadband Packages (and what technology they use)

      Sky Base - LLU
      Sky Mid - LLU
      Sky Max - LLU
Sky Connect - is a BT ADSL Max rebadged product.

This would be useful to check what packages are available from Sky Broadband, as well as any other broadband offerings from other ISPs.

This Exchange Checker uses data from Sam Knows, and is therefore quite reliable.

      Re: SkyUser Exchange Checker

So with a red cross next to LLU it would imply that Sky have no presence in the exchange meaning my friend can only get the Sky Connect£17 deal correct?

When she inquires Sky say they have LLU but the capacity is full?

      Which is it ?

      Re: SkyUser Exchange Checker

As for your interpretation of the red cross, its correct, it would normally imply that there is no LLU presence at all (or they have not informed SamKnows) So either the staff are incorrect or the information has not been updated recently.

Looks like only Connect is available to me.

      Re: SkyUser Exchange Checker

I have recently moved to my current address and have also moved from aol to Sky Connect with Sky Talk. When I enrolled with Sky Broadband I was disappointed that my exchange was poorly represented with LLU. But I was pleasantly surprised that for the first year on Sky Connect they will only charge me £10 per month. This I was told is a very recent offer.
I am lucky to be only 1/2 mile from the exchange so my initial speed was 6.3Mb - it dipped later on then restored itself - I will give it the 10 days and then see how it goes - so far ( without tempting fate ) I am very pleased with cost and performance of Sky Connect and would recommend it.
PS. I found my way here from the MyGermanShepherd.co.uk website.

      Re: SkyUser Exchange Checker

An exchange LLU upgrade could take upto 30 days to be commissioned and accepting connections. If you are due to be upgraded to an LLU package, Sky will do it asap as they save money once done.

      Re: SkyUser Exchange Checker

I have just completed the check for my line.

      0.83 miles from the exchange.
      ADSL Enabled: March 31, 2000
DSL Max Enabled: March 31, 2006
      SDSL Enabled: June 26, 2005
21CN due : (PSTN) No Info
      21CN WBC (Broadband) March 31, 2011

      Your BT Line Speed Estimation
      Fixed ADSL: 2048 (2 Mb)
      DSL Max: 5000 (5 Mb)

Implying the best I can get is 2mb, if I have understood that correctly.

My router stats tell a different story.

      System Up Time: 354:31:39

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 624443 927053 0 493 2534 113:15:43
      LAN 100M/Full 3656599 3586198 0 2924 1517 354:31:34
      WLAN 11M/54M 5570665 2680405 0 1928 270 354:31:21
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9036 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 34 db 19 db
Noise Margin 7 db 15 db

I should be getting up to 16mbps and Sky told me that around 14.5mbps is the best I could expect given distance from the exchange etc.

      Re: SkyUser Exchange Checker

No, the best you could get on a ADSL Max product would be 5mbps (2Mb if it was fixed ADSL) but you're on a LLU product which is a different thing entirely and the exchange checkers don't give speed estimates for LLU providers.

It may be best to start a fresh thread in the main Sky Broadband Help section for the particular issue regarding your current setup, however I would say that it may be an idea to perform a power off/on of your router as it has been up for a while. Also don't forget to post a set of stats whilst you're connected to your test socket, if you have one, so we can see if you have any issues with your internal wiring.
