Re: V1 Router Upgrade: Progress tracking thread

No update at Locks Heath, (STLOCKH), yet.

Are all the updates in the early hours?
and do I need only to leave my router on and not the PC?

I have left the router on now for 4 days and usually I turn it of for 12 hours at night.

Re: V1 Router Upgrade: Progress tracking thread

you can leave your PC off - routers are designed to be on 24/7...

Re: V1 Router Upgrade: Progress tracking thread

From what I can make out, Sky will try to trigger an update in the early hours of the morning, but if you have the router switched off at night, the upgrade within a few days, shortly after you switch it on. So if one day you switch the router on, and between 5 and 30 minutes later, your connection to the Internet seems to die, it would be a good idea not to switch the router off!

You do not need to have the PC on while the update is happening - the router does the update all on its own.

I realise that but power economy says turn it off - it does get hot.

Re: V1 Router Upgrade: Progress tracking thread

The V1 draws ~5 watts - much the same as a low power night light (and will cost about 10p a week if left on continuously).

Yes, they can get quite warm to the touch. If yours is getting "very hot" then that's a worry. You do have it mounted on its feet with adequate ventilation?

Re: V1 Router Upgrade: Progress tracking thread

just an idea, maybe a list of all Sky Easy Net exchanges and whether they are giving out a new firmware as a page!

Re: V1 Router Upgrade: Progress tracking thread

For info - my router -Chingford, London Exchange was done a few days ago.

0.5db improvement in noise level - steady as she goes.
Still only getting 10.5 mb max downstream.
