Another one with high pings / slow download speeds. On Denburn - deff no issues with the line, just the suspect router on 4th hop. Has had an effect on speed I can just about pull off 230 ish k/sec - this was more like 1200 k/sec before yesterday...

Well I have had an issue with upload/download since the pings went. download test have gone down from 6 meg to 4 meg, upload from 600kbps to a laughable 180. The chap ran tests on my line and agreed with me, hence the ticket. I'm assuming the up/down and pings are related as they happened at the same time.

It also infuriates me that they don't aknowledge ping. What percentage of their customers use bband for gaming? loads I'll bet. Ping to that large customer base is just as valid as dl speeds.

An email recieved today by a user from aberdeen with the same probs. He posted this on another forum:

I raised this yesterday morning, indeed ping times look to have
increased by almost 200ms for some customers. The seems to be a
problem on the transmission link between Aberdeen and Newcastle which
we monitored last night. We await the results form this, once they
come back to us we hope to have an ETA on a fix but nothing yet.

I also live in Aberdeen and noticed this problem a few days ago, spoke to sky, managed to get through to tier 3 and explained that it was nothing on my end causing the problem, even went as far as to give them the ip addresses from trace route of the devices where the ping suddenly jumps up to 250.

The guy on the phone told me that there must be some issue with the dslam equipment, and they will get their network maintenance team to look into it.

It will get fixed I just hope its soon :/

FINALLY got through to tier3 support, what a diffrence it makes when you get someone who speaks english on the phone, got throught to the ireland department and everytime i have got throught to them they always seem to be so much more helpfull.
Anyways tier3 said there is difinatly a problem in aberdeen as a lot of people have now reported it but he said it seems that nobody has actually looked into it yet and hopefully some other department are investigating it tomorrow.

Yeah my connection just seems to be getting even slower, ping averaging about 250
