Problems on Manchester Central?
Hi,
My router arrived yesterday but sadly when I plugged it in the internet light failed to come on. After phoning tech support I wasinformed that 'part' of the exchange in my area was down and that they were due to start repair on the 10th April.
I'll be honest, I have had so much hassle since switching to Sky that i'm beginning to wonder if my internet is ever going to work, so can anyone confirm if this indeed is the case and give me any further details about what portion of the exchange is causing the problem, and perhaps how long this usually takes to resolve.
The tech support people really had no idea when this work would be completed or if it was being carried out, so if anyone here has any more insight I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Re: Problems on Manchester Central?
Erm ok. Dont suppose ayone else knows of anyone or is having problems themselves in this area (manchester central) then? The best advice they could give me was "just turn the router on twice a day and check the internet light for the time being. You will know its been fixed when the light comes on"
This is the third day now and god knows how long the problem has been happening before that. Anyone?

Re: Problems on Manchester Central?
You could always ring BT and hint at a problem with your phone line. They should then look at the status at your exchange. Just don't mention broadband, that will get you nowhere.

Re: Problems on Manchester Central?
Thanks for the reply. The phone actually works fine. Is that normal if the broadband exchange is down?
If i am really honest I have had a bit of an unlucky experience with sky in the past 6 weeks and I am really frustrated at the lack of information that I can get about this problem, or any for that matter. Apologies to anyone who works for Sky in their support centers, but there isnt a lot of comfort in "we dont know when its due to be fixed, you will just have to wait, we have no idea". I cant imagine BT saying that.
That aside, I wouldnt be suprised if when the exchange is fixed (if that even is the problem ) that something is wrong with my line anyway, such has been the roll of the dice with this move.
God I am depressing myself here.

Re: Problems on Manchester Central?
No joy on this issue still. Phoned again on friday a few times, and Sky still say the DLAM that serves my area is down on the ports that I am supposed to be connected to. There is no indication when the work will be carried out, the note left on the 'system' says that the work was due to be started on Tuesday 10th April, but as yet no updates from engineers let alone progress in fixing it.
I can only assume that the problem was occuring for a few days prior to Tueday, in which case the exchange for my area has been not working properly for a week now.
I have had enough. Sky is a joke and I will be cancelling on Monday to go back to BT. Its an absolute farce. If this was a BT or even NTL/Virgin exchange it would be down for no more than a day or two and the feedback from the engineers would include estimated finishing times/dates. Its incredible that the "technical support" - which i know to be outsourced to ICICI in india via their Irish call centres are not given any details or updates from the engineers carrying out the work.
My sky experience has been miserable. 3 mislaid routers in 5 weeks, terrible information, complete lack of customer service and a broken exchange with no sign of any solution. I'll be demanding a full refund on monday, cancelling my direct debits and contracts and sending their hardware back to them. Terrible, terrible, terrible ISP. Make the old NTL seem like a goldstar service.

Re: Problems on Manchester Central?
When things go well with sky, then they seem to go very well and when things go wrong, unfortunately, they seem to go very wrong. It's a shame, they can't seem to able to communicate between themselves, let alone with thier customers.
Hope you get everything sorted soon and have better luck with another ISP, if that's what you intend to do.Asus P6T Deluxe - i7 920 @3.6GHz - 750GB Samsung F1 - 6GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz - XFX GTX260 'Black Edition' - Tagan 1100W PSU - TT 'Big Water' 760i - Antec 1200 - Windows 7 64-bit - Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit
