      Sky HD+ losing internet connection

      Hi all

My sky HD box seems to be having issues with the internet connection to it, i have a set up as follows

      Wireless router (not sky)
      ->Apple Express, connected wirelessly
->Old netgear router acting as a switch ethernet to AE
->Sky HD, TV, Amp, Xbox Wired into switch

Basically when i power everything down and back up it all works, but after a set amount of time (unknown exactly but more than a day) the sky box will not detect the internet and when i go to settings it says no connection found.

Now i have swapped out the switch as at first i thought it was this causing issues but the TV still works. Even now the TV connection is fine but sky box refuses to use it.

Any ideas as to what i have done wrong or what could be in the wrong here?

      Thanks in advance

Could you provide a little more information about your Sky box? On the system details page what is the model number and version number? When it loses internet connection what information is displayed on the network screen, in particular is local connection still saying "OK"? While still on the network screen if you use the red button to reset the connection does it find a valid ip address and restore internet connection?

Network page shows as follows, Once its lost it doesnt seem to come back without a reset of everything
      Local conn - FAIL
      Service - FAIL
      IP - 0.0.0.0
      DHCP ON

Using red button forces a 'searching for local network' followed by a 'Local network not found'

      Box information
      Model R006.058.60.00P
      Version 4f31a5

      Thanks

Re: Sky HD+ losing internet connection

Correct me if I'm wrong but as it currently stands both TV an Sky box are connected by ethernet cable to your old Netgear router and swapping cable ends from Sky box to TV and vice versa does not change fault symptoms. Does TV use DHCP to obtain its IP address? Where is your DHCP server? Does changing duration of DHCP lease effect time before fault occurs?

Well if i change the set up it works fine for a period of time but the sky breaks after a while, TV stays connected.

The TV is a Panasonic Viera ST model, to be honest im out of my depth with DHCP servers etc, but the router i have for the broadband i believe deals with that. Sorry I cant help more on DHCP but on the router i cant find settings for lease time? Its a Technicolor TG582n

      Thanks

I'm not familiar with that router so perhaps someone else who has the same router will reply. In the mean time can you find any settings regarding DHCP on any of your router's setting pages? Mine is set to default of 1 day which if yours is the same would fit in with the frequency of the fault occurring.

You do have the DHCP server disabled on the secondary router and on the AE?

Re: Sky HD+ losing internet connection

      Have you tried the following:
      - Set all devices to static (fixed) ip addresses. This will assign them the same ip addresses all the time and not have any conflicts.
      - Use a different DNS Server on your router and on devices. I tend to use google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I used to have a similar issue and the best thing I did was set all devices to fixed ip addresses on my router.
