Power Via USB cable to Hd Box

      HI All
Just set up my Samsung Sky HD box to my Sky Fibre Router via a Netgear WNCE 2001 Wireless Adapter. Tried the Usb power option via the sky box but could not get it to work { i.e. No power light on }It works great via the standard power adapter to the mains .
Just wondered if the Sky box USB port is actually "live" ??? or is it just mine that is for some reason not working ?
      Cheers !

The USB ports on HD boxes are now dead. At one time they could be used for charging iPods etc, but a firmware update disabled them for some reason.

Re: Power Via USB cable to Hd Box

      Greetings,

The USB port is not used for anything and on some STB's it has power and others no power, but as the power is controled by software an update can possibly stop a powered USB having power. Most people use them as chargers.

      Many Thanks !
Thought that it was "dead" but good to have that fact confirmed !
Will have to stick to the mains adapter as no other USB connections nearby.
      Cheers !!

Re: Power Via USB cable to Hd Box

I think the Thomson boxes may still be 'live' as they did not receive the latest updates. Fat lot of use, as they don't get Anytime+ so have no need for a sender. ;(
