      It is both.

Your Amstrad DRX780 needs to have the firmware to support Anytime+ and Sky need to enable it for your account.

Unfortunately it appears that the current firmware releases for the Amstrad DRX780 are resulting in more problems for it.

I've just received a software update today that added the network section to the Settings menu and added the downloads section to the planner.

      Model Number: SYSF32.27
      Version Number 4F3001

      Operating System Number: SYSF32.27
      EPG Software Version 42.0.5.2_3

Is this a step forward or am I just lagging behind everyone else?

Also there is now a software tab in the settings with 109 pages of waffle about opensource software.

As I'm locked in to my sky broadband contract for another 6 months, I rang Sky to just cancel Sky Movies, Lifestyle and News. I never watch the news or lifestyle channels and quite rarely watch the movies. That call was on Sunday.

When the assistant asked why, I told her I have the old Amstrad box and want Anytime+ but I'm fed up of being messed around. She offered a new box, completely free of charge - Even though I was dropping Movies and two quid worth of other stuff. Of course I went for it, if only for the faster TV guide.

Yesterday a man came and swapped out the box. I wasn't in so I think he was a little confused by my network setup. He plugged the Ethernet in but told my missus that we needed a cable to the router to get Anytime+. The cable he'd plugged in went via a network switch to the router but I guess he didn't realise that. Anyway, when I got home I rang Sky to have Anytime+ enabled, which once I got through to the right department took about 10 seconds to do.

Sorted! I now have a nice fast box, Anytime plus, and a month left to watch the two or three decent films available on it. I can't fault the Anytime+ delivery mechanism, but the content is a bit lacking. For example only three, of the seven episodes shown so far, of Game Of Thrones are available.

I'm assuming I won't be able to get that now?
Before I had the 1TB box installed Sky wanted 60 quid for it. Afterwards they sent me one for free. I don't think the advisor was being nice to me. It's probably that the system makes you eligible for a free wireless connector if you get the 1TB box.

      Worth a shot.

Contrary to what I've read on the forum the wireless connector is quite good (if you get it free).

      lol - fair comment.

Personally I wouldn't encourage people to pay 60 for a WiFi g adaptor though.

Re: Anytime+ Amstrad 780 problem thread...

After my email to Jeremy Durroch, I have now had my box replaced foc. Whilst the installers were here they recommended replacing my old cabling (over 10 years old and 2 separate cables). They then did this with new twin cabling, fitted a new LNB and installed my new latest std box. So I am finally up and running with a complete new system. As my replacement was classed as a new install I also got to keep my 780 and remote control.

      Happy customer at last!

So now its time to think up imaginative ideas for what to do with my old box, (no boring suggestions like the obvious use for multi-room please).

Something to think about whilst planning what to do with the old Amstrad...

Just switched my box on (first time since thursday) and it said I'd had an update, checked the version number and noticed the network tab was there, stuck the cable in and anytime+ worked instantly (multiroom subscription so I had already added it to my account). Just wish I had a bigger hard drive now

Must mean they're eventually rolling out the update to all 780 boxes but will it work well I wonder........last time for most people with 780's it messed the box up
