      Sky Anytime plus wireless options...

I noticed after looking around that the cost of a wireless bridge to connect the Sky HD box to anytime plus wirelessly, that most non sky options are not much cheaper at between 45-80.

Random idea ... what would stop me taking my Xbox 360 wireless adaptor (the one microsoft make) that uses a usb to plug into xbox, getting a usb to ethernet converter cable and then plugging into the sky hd box ethernet port? Or maybe using the sky hd box usb port instead of the ethernet port (if it has one)?

Would this work as is the xbox wireless adaptor not just a simple wireless dongle which would do the job?

      Thanks

Or better still, get a couple of cheap homeplugs from e-bay and then you won't suffer from wireless interference due to all the electronics at the back of the TV/receiver.

The Sky box USB port is not active so you can't use it. The Xbox adapter won't work either - ethernet / USB adapters are to connect a wired network to a PC without an internal network card, not the other way round.

A cheap wireless router would work if it's capable of being set to bridge mode. EBuyer had some for 20 the other week.

I agree. At the moment i can't connect my modem to the Sky box and am looking for options. I would prefer a wireless bridge/repeater as it would kill two birds with one stone by 1) connecting the Sky HD box to internet and 2) increasing range of wifi in the house.

Unfortunately i have no idea how/which routers are capable of 'being set to bridge mode'...

Does anyone know of a thread where this has been discussed? It would be great to get a list of compatible routers and a how to on how to set it up as an alternative to Sky's overpriced option or powerlines.

      Thanks.

Re: Sky Anytime plus wireless options...

Hi all. If I can get my hands on a second Sagem F@st 2504 router, or any Sky branded router. Will i be able to get it working as a wireless point so that i can connect it to my Sky HD box to access Anytime+ service wirelessly from the Sagem modem Sky supplied me with? Really don't want to spend 60 on the official Sky wireless box for Anytime+ when i can get it working for next to nothing.

      Thanks for your help.

I would also be interested in knowing the answer to Freddo's question as I have a spare Sagem router which I could use in this way.

      Hi

If you follow my thread this may help you answer your problem...

How connect belkin f5d7330 wireless bridge to a Sagem 2504

The last post refers to connecting a Sky Hd box via a wireless adapter to Sagem 2504 router, used for downloading Anytime+ programs

I just bought one of these OpenMedia Wifi Bridge - Make Your Dreambox Wireless on eBay (end time 28-Nov-10 14:27:18 GMT) It's powered by the USB too so no power outlet needed

My box has the new software but can't activate it on the sky website so at present can't test it. On the network tab both connections are OK and IP address has an address so should be ready to go

One of these will make it work for you if you dont want to fork out the 60 for the Sky Wireless Connection.
