    Sky Anytime plus wireless options...

This is a discussion on Sky Anytime plus wireless options... within the Sky Anytime + forums, part of the Sky On Demand category; Some newer TVs have USB ports, maybe yours has? (Nice find Scubbie, that could be very useful )...

Unfortunately not. Already thought of that, but thanks for the suggestion.

That's a good idea Scubbie. I'll bear it in mind. I've managed to cobble together a powered USB Hub for now. Just gotta persuade it to find the router from where it is - only a couple of feet further away than when I had it plugged into the laptop. Surely it can't be too many electronic things. It connected ONCE briefly, but since then it just says FAIL

I think I have my answer. I've bought an ethernet extension connector, to get the bridge out of my entertainment centre, and I'm using a spare USB on my Wii ... Anytime+ has started straight away, and is merrily downloading now.

Happy Days and thanks to all for advice.

Re: Sky Anytime plus wireless options...

Got my Sky Anytime+ working wirelessly using a Belkin F5D7132UK WURE. I can't really recommend the Belkin as the firmware is absolutely shocking and hence it is a pain to set up, although I'm happy to help anyone that attempts it (took me HOURS).

It does have one big thing in its favour... it is VERY cheap. Not been using it for long yet so I'm unable to comment about the stability of it. I'm also using it as a secondary Wireless Access Point (WAP) so it's extending the range of the router for other wireless devices as well.

Hi - Looking for some info. I have a Sky HD box and Sky broadband. How can I connect my sky box wirelessly without purchasing the 60 kit from Sky to get Sky Anytime Plus? Is there a cheaper alternative? Grateful for your help.

There are essentially 3 different options:

      1. connect the Sky+ HD STB via a long Ethernet cable directly to the Sky router

      2. connect the Sky+ HD STB to a HomePlug, with the 2nd HomePlug connected to the Sky router

      3. connect a WiFi Media Bridge to the Sky+ HD STB

With option one you could feed the cable to a wall socket and have the other end come out beside your router. The price for Ethernet cables over 10m tends to be good value at the moment. A 10m cable can be bought for around 5 on the Internet. Ethernet cable can be as long as 100m before any significant loss of the speed can occur.

With option two you essentially plug each HomePlug into a mains socket and they use you electrical wiring to extend your LAN signal between each other. They cost from around 35-150. Aim for a pair that use 100mbps or 200mbps and have a pass-through socket. They require very little technical knowledge to set up.

This thread discusses WiFi Media Bridges, so I won't go into them in this post.
