Using Sagem fast 2504 with new isp

      Hi All

I am struggling to set my Playstation 3 to link up with my new ISP which is the post office and they have sent me a lovely Zyxel router which is rubbish so i am trying to use my old sky router
(Sagem F@ST 2504 I think??) with the current ISP.

I called them and they were absolutely useless and told me to look on youtube to find how to set my old router up.

I have looked at old threads in these forums and found links to these firmware upgrades which don't seem to work but any help would be more than appreciated.

      Many Thanks

      New User Graham

All Sky routers have the log in details embedded within them and they cannot be changed.

You would need to find a generic firmware which would allow you to enter the log in details required for you to connect to your new ISP. I do not think one exists for the Sagem 2504.

Any firmware upgrades that I am aware of are intended to allow the router to work on Sky's network.

You should be able to enable Plug and Play (UPnP) on the Zyxel router. This should resolve the problem. If not, try searching for a suitable forum that supports the Post Office Broadband customers.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps (in inital connection time)
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Out of interest, what model Zyxel router do you have, as I'm amazed you think the Sky router is better? I've got a cheap a chips Zyxel (660-R), and it is far superior to the Sagem 2504N.

The Sky router is horribly locked down, with many settings not available to users (probably to make Sky's job of supporting it much easier), but if you want to do anything more than basic 'use the internet', then the Sky Sagem 2504N router is definitely one of the worst modems I've ever seen. It's the only 'router' I've seen that doesn't allow the user to alter the routing tables (the core function of a router!).

Generally the Zyxel routers have a good reputation for being a good, solid, reliable router, and I've installed quite a few of these in corporate environments and never had any issues with them.

As scubbie points out, it is possible to get the original (i.e. non sky) firmware and reflash the modem. I believe that the non sky version of the router is 2404N, but I'm not 100% sure, so don't flash with this firmware before checking, otherwise you may turn the router into a brick.

If you have the Sagem F@st 2504, then the link for the generic firmware in this PDF still work.
      Sagem F@ST 2504

If you need the .W file, see post No, 6 below.

Do not use this on the 2304N or 2504N.
