New Sky BB customer - experience so far

Hi all,
Great forum you have here!

I joined sky BB unlimited, switched on yesterday.

I have a couple of questions i'm sure you can help me with...

When first switched on the router stats (DG934G) were Up 4093mbps Down 406 mbps, Att 38db/21db, N/M 22db/17db. Noise margin decreased a little during the day. This morning stats are as follows:

Up 9927mbps Down 944 mbps
Att 38db / 21db
N/M 10db / 9db

Best Speedtest.net test reports 8.51Mb/s 0.79Mb/s, though most were around 6Mb/s for D/L speed.

Do today's stats suggest that I am on ADSL2+ now?
Can I expect any further improvement, lowering of noise margin over the next few days?

Secondly, I have set up the DG934G downstairs but have my wireless laptop upstairs (small 2 bed house, less than 20ft from router to laptop in straight line, no brick walls in the way, only plasterboard ceiling and wooden floorboards).

Problem is the wireless connection is awful, simply browsing to a website means a delay of upto 1 minute before page starts to load, sometimes failing to load at all. Same with wife's laptop when used upstairs as it usually is.
I proved it was the wireless at fault by connecting ethernet to my laptop, everything is fine when hard wired.
My previous router (DG834N) was positioned in the same place and gave great signal all around the house.

I suppose my question is, is this normal for the DG934?
I've read that wireless routers work better in an elevated position, if I moved the router upstairs would I likely still get a reception downstairs?
Is there anything else I can try to improve the wireless range?
Btw, both laptops are fine when used downstairs near the router.

Finally, I read about the Mognuts utility for getting advanced stats for the DG834GT, is there such a utility for the DG934G?

Thanks in advance

1. Yes you're on adsl2+ - are you on the master socket?
2. Have you tried changing the routers wireless channel?

Re: New Sky BB customer - experience so far

Thanks for reply, sorry, knew i'd miss something.

Yes, am using master socket. Have also tried test socket in recent past and noticed no differences in stats. Not sure if bell wire is still connected, assume it is.

Also, I used inSSIDer to check for local networks. It showed 2 weak signals from neighbours, both on channel 1 so I have my router set to channel 11 so no overlap.

Thanks.

Likely to just be the crapness that is wireless. You could try using your old router (bare in mind it is in breech of T&Cs) and see how it goes...
