should it be this different??

hey guys and gals

just did a quick test with 2 routers i have
1 from sky the netgear 934 and a billion 7300ga
the netgear gave me 7297 kbps with line att at 47 db and noise at 7
the billion gives
Upstream 732 kbps
Downstream 8228 kbps
Noise Margin (Upstream) 9.5 db
Noise Margin (Downstream) 7.2 db
Attenuation (Upstream) 27.9 db
Attenuation (Downstream) 45.0 db

why such a big difference? the upstream is slightly lower with the billion but the down is much faster
these tests were carried out within 30 secs of each other and repeated several times each time with similar results

it's just how different routers act on a line...i was on 2.5Mbps with BT and once I got my Netgear from Sky i've never been below 5Mbps...

when you say with bt do you mean their adsl?
im testing this with sky using 2 routers yet getting way different results. it just seems wrong to be so different, is it just the netgear they give is rubbish?

Re: should it be this different??

well last night i had my line drop every few minutes for about 1 hour until i changed back to the netgear router and then it stopped, is this something sky are doing to stop me using a different router or am i just paranoid??

Re: should it be this different??

Maybe the Billion could not handle the line conditions as well as the Netgear. The highest sync speed is not always the best. If Sky were to blame, I think the forum would be full of posts complaining about it.
