It's dead easy to use, you just need to check the detailed router stats.

I;m guesiing it will show your 'mode' as G.DMT which if is does means your profile is not ADSL2+ and as such you are 'capped'.

You will need to get Sky to move your profile to ADSL2+ (the mode will report ADSL2+ not G.DMT when you are on the correct profile)

The utility "allows" you to change things - it's not compulsory

To find out what mode you are currently synced to you must choose the get detailed modem statistics option and then download the cfg file.

This utility has some powerful functions. If you're not sure what does what then you should leave well alone. For Connect customers the risks of messing up your connection, big time, are quite high.

Re: Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

Just got home and checked the router statistics, and now my downstream is 15323 kbps and upstream 764 kbps. the line attenuation is now 15 up and 8 down.
Does this usually change? Is it because the line had to stabalize and now after some time it has, or it will be stabalizing?

Re: Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

Attenuation is normally pretty static - there's no "stabilizing" effect. Things that will cause it to change are:
  • it was measured with a different router
  • the line was rerouted by BT (very unusual)
  • the ADSL mode has changed
  • the line quality has been improved (e.g. gross corrosion/poor connection)

Can you post your stats as reported by the modem. If you are saying you have a downstream attenuation of 8db and upstream of 15db then that's really remarkable. For a start the upstream is usually lower than the downstream and a downstream of 8db would suggest you practically live in the exchange!

Try rebooting your router and see if you get more likely figures.

Re: Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

whoops, sorry put them the wrong way round. The line attenuation downstream is 15 and upstream is 8.

According to one of those "Where is your Exchange" links in someones sig I am roughly 300 metres away from my exchange. I guess that explains the good attenuation

Heres what I get from the Statistics in the router:

Re: Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

I tried that, it was reading 7.1dp static last night, when I logged on today my router had lost my IP address again and needed resetting.
