Great post, thanks for the information.

It has left me a little bemused though!

All the line checkers I have ran say the fastest our line can go is 512k. Upon connecting to sky broadband, I get 2MB (2048 downstream) no problem.

Fair enough, there may be a slight miscalculation by BT.

BUT, when i click show statistics on the Router page, my attenuation reads as 15.5db. Not that i'm complaining! But I don't want to get my hopes up.

I have no way of actually testing my line, as I'm on Base.

Can all the speed checkers/samknows/BT even have my exchange details incorrect?

There seems to be a bug in the router which sometimes causes it to show attenuation as 15.5db.

Try resetting your router via the reset hole on the back. Push a pen tip in for a second or so - not longer than that or you'll reset your router back to the delivery defaults and lose any changes to the settings (if you've made any).

Tell us if the reported attenuation changed.

Thanks for the reply.

I knew it was too good to be true! I shall reset it tonight and report back my findings.

Is This Good?

Hi There

I am a complete novice when it comes to technical stuff. But by following the Thread I seem to have readings as printed below.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8190 kbps 396 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.0 db 17.3 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 25.0 db

Is this Good?

Keith

when you say to reboot do you mean from pushing a pen into the little hole on the back of my router or do you mean a software reboot? I have soft rebooted my router 6times in a row and nothing seems to be changing

No. Pushing a pen in the back of the router is a reset.

I mean reboot which can either be done through the router admin pages or through a power cycle.

When you say nothing changes, what do you mean? That the noise margin which is lower than 6.5db when you reboot, stays the same figure immediately after?
