Re: Windows - Genuine or not?

My OS always used to be pirated but following the launch of Vista I am now officially legit. I thought the price of the OEM Vista Ultimate (97) to be reasonable considering the amount of time I spend using it.

Mind you if the OEM's weren't available, and was expected to pay in excess of 300 for a legit copy then I would be straight onto the newsgroups again.....

btw this site gets better and better. Keep up the good work.

Re: Windows - Genuine or not?

I'll second that about this site -- robust discussions and humour, even. I've avoided forums before now because most seem to be full of snotty youths exchanging dumb jargon.

Talking of dumb, anyone seen Microsoft's latest effort to combat pirate software ? My copy fell out of the Evening Standard' ES magazine this week.

It's called "GET REAL -- Pirates Of The Corporation" a cartoon style collection of dull tales of corporate serfs coming to grief because they weren't using those real Microsoft products -- you know, the ones with the Windows Genuine Advantage (or whatever).

It includes a competition to win an XBox which requires you to fill in a sort of crossword with answers that prove you've understood the dull tales. The tiebreaker is something like "I choose genuine Microsoft Products because...." Which just seems like an invitation to a hail of abuse.

I don't think I've see anything so infantile since the Green Cross Code ads by the COI on flickery black and white TV in the seventies.

Presumably this was dreamt up by the same marketing duffers who were shown on the Money Program coming up with the WOW factor for the launch of Vista (as in "WOW I just spent 300 on Vista and it doesn't seem to work")

Re: Windows - Genuine or not?

I got it from a local computer fair the week after it was launched in this country. I had intended to get it from overclockers.co.uk the week later, but I saved a tenner still and helped a local business to boot!

Overclockers is a fab site for system builders and some of their prices are great too. Vista Ultimate OEM is quoted there for 129 inc. at the moment. Though I remember it being cheaper.
