      Poll on forced Firmware Upgrade

Should Sky Broadband give customers the options to
      accept/ reject/ defer Firmware upgrades.

There are reports that Sky Broadband will force a firmware upgrade
on the White Netgear V1 Router - even if yours is working without a problem.
It looks like you will not be notified that the upgrade is taking place.
You will not have the options to accept or reject the upgrade or
wait to see how the roll out works for others.

      Thanks.
I thought only Gordon Brown fixed the polls.
      I want a free vote.

I we should be given the choice but I can see why Sky are doing it.

Re: Poll on forced Firmware Upgrade

The biggest problem I can see with this, is everyone agreed to let Sky do this by consenting to the T and C's whilst ordering. It quite clearly states to allow updates.

I really cannot see Sky backing down on this one myself.

Re: Poll on forced Firmware Upgrade

More then happy having it forced on to my router, however I'd like to be able to turn it down/delay it like you can with windows updates - can just see it happening at the wrong time when I'm downloading either 2 CD's from work or that huge database....

Kidding of course - haven't downloaded any cd's for days...

Re: Poll on forced Firmware Upgrade

We already have a choice - we either accept it, or we leave. I'll see how the upgrade goes, but I doubt they could totally destroy my connection (famous last words!)

Assuming you actually can flash back to the old version. The digitally-signed flash image that the F@ST2504 uses made that router really difficult to crack, and if they implement something like that in the updated firmware for the DG834GT, you might find that the previous version of the firmware simply won't load.

      I agree.
This poll is not, of course, suggesting anyone should not
abide by the Terms and Conditions we have signed up to.
It's testing if there is a demand for a choice of options
      on the firmware upgrade.
There are plenty of other threads that encourage and give
      instructions on breaking T&Cs.
