Used to love Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 1, and OOH Gary Davies, OOH Gary Davies. The funniest thing ever from that time period was Dave Lee Travis with the Noel Edmunds Gotcha!

Those why the days, I would add to that Simon Bates in the morning and the 'our tune' segment which he is still doing these days on commercial radio although the stories don't seem as good or as long as they were when he was on radio one.

      Re: SkyUser Radio

      Oh my Lord!

In the history of radio Dave Lee Travis, Simon Bates, Gary Davis and their ilk were probably the worst kind of Deeeeee Jays known to the industry. One assumes you're joking when you say you rate these guys as they were nothing to do with music in the slightest - more to do with their egos. However, if you like these presenters then I'm sure Alan Partridge, Mike Read and David "Diddy" Hamilton might be free to to help present on Skyuser Radio (did you catch the cringe inducing documentary/stitch up about Big L Radio - last RAJAR figures 2000 listeners, no advertisers, 50,000 loss per month).

I know it's a hobbyist station you're proposing so don't take my comments to heart as I'm playing a devils advocate if you like. However to produce anything of even the slightest quality takes a lot of effort, commitment, discipline and co-ordination otherwise it will be a mess that will fizzle out much sooner than you may think.

Oh well, takes all sorts and all tastes but here's a suggestion for the radio station name.....

      Smashie & Nicey Broadcasting Corporation

      Good luck

      PS:
I hate to do this so I do expect some ribbing on this statement.....

I have a little (only a smidgen) perspective on this having studied Broadcast Journalism at a Masters level, produced and presented for both BBC and commercial Radio stations before crossing over to Television and Video Post Production.

Yes it was a good program and it was strange seeing that they thought they were doing well or going to succeed.

As for your opinion, you are entitled to it and if we all had the same, life would be boring. I think Radio is probably a bit strong, but the seeds are there and there is a lot of interest judging by the PM's etc we are receiving.

I was been serious about those named, that was when Radio 1 was at its best, but I am quite old and probably behind the times of the modern day DJ.

Absolutely, it takes all tastes and the Worlds a better place for it (still going to have to disagree with the Radio 1 DJ thing )) - Come on, you've got to admit the Worlds also a better place without Gary Davis

I'm sort of being a little confrontational as I really want to hammer home that there is a lot of effort required by individuals and the collective to get something like this going. I'd hate to see all this enthusiastic talk contained in these threads actually end up translating to nothing when any effort/commitment is required of all the enthused posters.

Ultimately the SkyUser Radio is not my thing but respect it's others so I'll probably butt out of the discussions as it's no fun having a cynic like me in the mix.

Sincerely, good luck and keep up the good work with Skyuser.

      spcdust

      PS
Please, don't tell me you rated Bruno Brookes as well?
For the record give me John Peel & Alan Freeman any day - true music appreciating legends.
