      P2P Software & Torrent Software Issue

      I recently recieved my sky broadband as planned with no hitches

      However both my p2p software (limewire) and torrent software (bittorrent) start off with poor download speeds of 5kb/s and then after 10 minutes dwindle to 0kb/s ... making it impossible to use either

      I find this strange when I can download fast from the net via firefox or internet explorer

      does anyone have a similar issue or know how to resolve it?

      I'm having exactly the same speed problem with bittorent, for a 8MB conection my speeds barely go above 20kb/s, but my upload can go as high as 40kb/s if i don't limit it. I use a wireless connection both with my laptop and desktop pc and have tried the optimizer. I have also forwarded the port using the guide at portforward.com.
      I rang up sky yesterday and after a check on my line they said that i should have no problem getting the 8MB speed, as my line supports it.
      I have even tried azureus, another bt software with the same results. it tends to take an age connecting to other peers for some reason.

      My speed tends to vary alot, early am i can get 6MB (according to speed test), after 1pm goes to about 3MB, after 4pm down to 1.5MB, after 7pm barely 1MB until 11pm when it goes back upto 3MB. Strange has my connection speed in the router stats never changes, its always 8120kbps.

      You don't say what normal downloads are like can you try this one and lets us know please

      ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/edunfs/mirror...4-bootonly.iso

      25MB file

      @Will
      I have no experience of P2P downloads so cannot give you any advice on how to fix it but it could be as Bill said and you need to open some ports in the routers firewall.

      Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

      Hi I am not sure what to suggest, what port do you use? Try changing it to something over 50000 I did that when I first went to a highspeed connection and it did help... That was cable though. Have you done any tweaks to your connection or u torrent? TCP optimizer can help and I will try and track down a u torrent tutorial to tweak that.

      Ah in that case I have no ideas I only ever use Usenet and I can max my connection with that no problem.
