Just to update this thread. Quite a number of people received letters in the past few days from ACS in regards to downloading one song in particular. Don't know if I'm allowed to divulge what song or artist.

I don't why not. It is a bit like flashing your lights to warn of a speed trap, you are only advising people not to break the Law.

They are a lot being threatened with prosecution for downloading Hurt Locker. It seems the owners are determined to come down heavily on piracy.

Yep stay well clear of the latest hollyhood releases if you don't want the internet police coming down on your ass. Same used to be true for the latest output from big music artists, etc, though that seems to have lessened since the flurry of very public prosecutions of not so many years ago. This is especially true with BitTorrent and other popular P2P trafficking, your IP address sticks out like a sore thumb.

Re: has anybody had a letter yet ?

EVERYBODY......ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE RECEIVED LETTER OF CLAIM FROM ACS LAW.

The DEA will not stop this type of claim. These claims come from the application of an NPO (Norwich Pharmacal Order) which, if uncontested, allows ACS Law to ask for the details of an IP address from the ISP. IN SOME CASES THE ISP IS PAID FOR EVERY IP REVEALED

The IP addresses have been harvested using unproven software which has been outlawed in some European countries. No one has had the chance to examine these metHods in this country because no one has as yet been taken to court and the majority of ISP's have accepted this "evidence" without question. This software has yet to be proved to be accurate and that is what may explain why so many innocent people have received a letter of claim.
(TalkTalk refused to co-operate, therefore none of their customers have received letters.)

No one will have had any prior notice of any intended action from Sky because they dont have to. The first you will know is the Letter of Claim dropping through your letterbox.
Why should Sky bother..... they have their payment!!

Ask Sky why they dont contest the order and how much they receive for each of your ip details.

There are various small programs you can d/load for free that protect you during p2p. Peer guardian and peer checker are 2. They run in the background and stop known sources from logging you.
