      thank you
A public tracker is a tracker that allows anyone to join a torrent swarm, reguardless if they are a good uploader or not.

A private tracker is a tracker that only allow spefic people or 'members' to join its torrent swarm. These trackers are usually policed and 'leechers' or people with bad upload ratios are banned.

Since private trackers usually have generous uploaders you are more likely to get better speeds.

I tried a private one today and got 1MB when i limited it to 1.1MB

I download from a site called Dime (which has a 25% share ratio enforcement)

Earlier today I downloaded a Stones gig (double CD Flac files). The speed was phenomenal. I took a screen shot.

Like with everything you can't get something faster than the speed the other end if willing to send you.

If you increase your "maximum connections per torrent" number you computer will nag more people for data and your chance of finding a generous one increases, but setting it too high means your connection will be saturated with "hello", "I'm still here" and "goodbye" overhead packets with don't contain any useful data for your download.

Also look for torrents with a high seed to peer ratio if possible.

      Re: what speeds...torrent downloads?

public trackers are torrent sites which are open to all and easy to locate. Private trackers are members only sites, often requiring an invite from an existing member of good standing to get in.
They have strictly enforced policies regarding your share ratio and as a result of that and other things tend to have faster torrents.

Edit to add, the issue with comparing torrents is that you can never get a fair comparison! No two torrents are identical in terms of available bandwidth (What folks are setting their upload to) In fact the same torrent could be super fast one minute and rubbish the next. It really is a matter of if you can reach the speed with a torrent in ideal conditions then you can reach the speed.

It is quite possible yes. how many peers are there? Remember you are competing with them for available seeds. Also it may be that most of those seeds have limited their upload or are seeding another 5 or 10 files. Sometimes I seed 50!
There is refining you can do but it is a lot of work for little impact. I posted some links way back when the site went online, I will try and find them for you

To clarify it's not the tracker's fault itself, its the type of people that connect to that tracker.

As the name suggests all the tracker does is keep track of the people downloading or seeding the file (the swarm), the transfer of the data is the responsibility of the peers (you and the other people in the swarm).
