      Multiroom offer

      Hi,
Contacted SKY to cancel the Sports package - was offered another 6 months 50% discount which I accepted, but was also offered mutiroom with a free box and setup. As the present HDMI video sender is getting a bit flakey I worked out it would probably be cheaper to go for another box - but didn't accept at the time. Perhaps I wouldn't be offered it again if I phoned back?
But also wondering - what do I get with multiroom? Is the second box also a PVR for all the channels on my viewing card, and is there anything I can't do on the second box which i could on the main one?

      Cheers

      Re: Multiroom offer

I got a 2TB box for 49 and free multiroom for 12 months, 12 months half price HD subscription, to combat the install charge of 60

I spoke to cancellations, see if they can do the same deal?

what do I get with multiroom?
A new HD box normally, installed, with a new viewing card, then you can watch all the channels (as well as record etc) on that box that you would normally watch on the others.

The standard multiroom box although HD is not a PVR though there has been a lot of unconfirmed talk about a new feature, due to be launched next year, which will enable you to view programmes recorded on your main box providing both boxes are connected to the same local network.

Ah - so in reality there is no increase in recording capacity? A bummer then, as most of my viewing is done off recordings.

      Thanks Newsreader
Do I gather the multiroom box is therefore not the standard box, but just some kind of basic receiver, albeit with HD capability?

      Re: Multiroom offer

Sky do different boxes, one that has no recording capacity, others that do.

If I were going to have Multiroom, the minimum that I would want is the same channels and recording facilities. Otherwise, your main box will fill up with other's programmes?

With another box, you could record twice as much as before, and be able to watch other programmes on different channels etc

As NewsreadeR says Sky do do different boxes but as an existing customer I would expect mutiroom with a free box and setup to mean non-pvr.

This is where we differ then, if I was paying an extra 10.25 per month for multiroom, I would expect pvr and the same channels etc as the main box.

I already posted above, that there are deals to be had. For a one off payment of 49 as well as no 10.25 per month, for Multiroom, (for 12 months) if you speak to the right people you can get yourself a 2TB pvr

I agree with everything you have said but if Meteosat had accepted the original offer expecting a PVR then this would have resulted in disappointment.
      NewsreadeR and Meteosat like this.
