Disapointment would not have been the right word!! Gutted comes nearer, and then all the hassle of cancelling etc. Is there a hint in Newsreader's post that it is possible to get a multiroom now?

Cheers - oh and thanks to all for spot-on info.

No harm in giving Sky a call to see what they can offer you. The upgrades department is probably the worst department for giving good deals. Before accepting anything make sure you know exactly what you are being sold and remember the maxim about offers that look too good to be true.

Indeed - I think I would go back to cancellations and see whether their offer still stands. You never know, my call may trigger a 'letter' anyway ;-))

      Cheers

      Re: Multiroom offer

Just wondering before I contact SKY as to what is the maximum cable length - the line to a bedroom needs to traverse the length of the house, plus a few other corners. The last installer also only had single cable, so hoping the dual stuff is more standard now?

      Cheers

As all new installs for a Sky subscription are PVRs dual cable tends to be the standard. Before cable loss becomes a problem the cost of cabling does. It states in the T&Cs "Non-standard set-up may cost extra". I think the spec. says 30 metres but as most installs are less than this the engineer should allow some leaway. The best thing is to see what the engineer says. If he says the install is not possible or will cost extra and you are not willing to pay there would not be any charge for a failed install.

Thanks - most helpful. The last fitter refused even to drill any holes in the wall - handed me the drill! I didn't know there was a ban on fitters drilling holes !!

      Cheers

The one I had the other week just drilled straight through, was done in 20 seconds or so. The only thing was he never hoovered all the dust up, so I had to do it.

That must have been an internal wall. External walls they drill all the time otherwise they wouldn't be able to get a connection from the dish to the Sky box/TV. The ban on drilling through internal walls has been imposed by Sky who don't want to be left with the bill if the engineer was to drill through a cable, gas pipe or water pipe.

      Re: Multiroom offer

Interesting that the multiroom page now offers you a choice of boxes rather than just the non PVR one...

Sky Multiroom - Watch a different Sky TV Channel in every room

      Cheers

Yes but notice the price. I don't know if the price varies according to current subscription but for me it is quoting:
      • Sky HD Multiroom box - First box free when taking a new Sky Multiroom subscription. Limited to one free box per household (and not available to customers who have already received a free standard box) otherwise 49.
      • All other boxes - 199.
