I have been a sky plus customer for the best part of four years and believe with the new telly purchased it really needs to the joy of a high-definition input.

I have to admit that I'm slightly miffed with the treatment sky is offering long-term customers as opposed to new customers.
I'm not unhappy about the new customers getting cheaper packages per se it's more to do with the installation charges.
I remember and accept when I joined four years ago I got a cheaper package than existing members.
As newsreadeR pointed out that happens in a cycle.
I got my discount way back when.

What I resent is the fact that they want 60 to unscrew two coaxial plugs install the HD box reconnect the two plugs and pair up the card.!

(I did not get a discounted install I paid.)

I have tried to ring sky several times to discuss a proposition but have been cut off on all three occasions when being handed over to someone on the higher pay grade able to call the shots.

I would like to run it by you guys to see if if it got any legs!

Sky next month will issue me with 50 worth of vouchers for introducing a friend.
I don't really want the Marks & Spencer voucher.
Do you think they would consider giving me the install for 10 or even gratis if i forfit the vouchers?

Otherwise I think I'll just stick it out till whenever they stop taking the Mickey.
Funny thing is I will add the movie Channel straight away.
I cannot see the strategy logic here.
I really cannot be bothered to go down the threatening to cancel route so I get through to the retentions department in a attempt to reach my objective that wastes both our time and resources.

My bill last week was 73.23.

      Greatful for any opinions offered.

      Happy New Year.

      Cheers lfc-rule
I'm in a similar position to LFC-rule (indeed they do ) I've had sky+ for over 2 years and recently purchased a bravia tv from sony centre. They have an offer for sky hd box and installation for 5 if you buy a bravia but its only for brand new sky customers only

I rang sky last week and the best price they offered for sky hd box and install was 200!!! which I refused....but they were quick to flog their own telephone line.

Its annoying when they chase after new customers and disregard existing customers....rant over

      Cheers

      Mr Moon

      Re: rumour about 2009 offers

      Hi Guys

I have been wandering the web with interest looking for info on Sky for the last six weeks, when I started reading this forum.

My folks cancelled Sky in October, due to costs, and were promptly offered a free Sky+ box with free installation if they came back via letter. I was somewhat miffed as I joined Sky digital when it first came out in 1996, and so had been a loyal paying customer for 12 years. I have always had the full package of TV.

I really wanted Sky+, my missus does not get on with our DVD recorder. So I phoned Sky+ and asked why I could not have this when I had been a subscriber for twice as long as my folks. Did the normal, "it is 160, but we will do it for 49" conversation.

I stuck to my guns and cancelled it, I told them they treat their existing customers like ****.

My daughter is really missing Sky, so do I, but I felt I had had enough of being treated this way. I'm sure they will contact me soon, but I think I may wait till February now anyway from what I am reading. People may think I ended up spiting myself, but when somebody gives a direct family member something, and then tells you "No", it gets my goat.

      Dave...........disgruntled currently ex subscriber

      Re: rumour about 2009 offers

      Welcome Splatty.

You have joined at a time when introductory offers are a hot issue.

I suspect there may be a legal point Sky have to grapple with.
The conditions for new subscribers are clear.
You get this offer IF you have never been a Sky subscriber before.
Once they offer the same thing to existing users, surely Sky
will have to make it available to everyone?
This would not make economic sense to Sky.

The small print on offers Sky mail out have specific Terms and Conditions,
which look to me like they have been written by a lawyer.

Having said that, many (but not all) have reported on this site before
that when they cancel they get a better offer.
Hopefully this will happen to you.

      Re: rumour about 2009 offers

If I read your post correctly skypaulus, you canceled after one month.
You tried the service and didn't like it.
So they incentivised you to try it for a longer period.
This is a completely different situation to Splatty

Perhaps the Cancellation Department at Sky have to work
within certain legal and financial parameters.
As I recall previous posts, only the Cancellation Department have
this power to negotiate and they usually do it at the time you cancel.

Someone recently posted an article on "How to Complain".
I wish I could find it. It is well worth reading. I cant find it using "search".

You need to work out in advance what you want, decide if its possible,
or what your fall back position is.
Customers who lose their temper will lose out.

      Exactly.

      You were a good negotiator.
You didn't get everything you wanted, but you were happy
with the compromise. So were Sky.
Otherwise you must be prepared to walk away because they
      will call your bluff.

      Re: rumour about 2009 offers

Quite right Murdock, I had already decided I was happy to walk away.......and did so in the end.

To be fair, the woman I spoke to on the phone was great. She really tried to help, and sympathised due to the fact she could not offer me a free box. I sometimes wonder if I was being greedy, but other people ( 4 I know ) have received free box and install under threat to cancel.

I lose out a bit when talking to Sky as my employer pays my phone and ISP costs, so I have no need for Sky's other offerings. I suppose I could move everything, but why bother when I don't need to ?

I'm sure something will hit the doormat at some point to tempt me back, but at the moment, I would only come back if there was ZERO cost to me. I find it almost laughable that after paying the full premium tv subscription for 12 years, Sky were prepared to lose me as a customer over 49.

      We'll see what happens I suppose !!

      Re: rumour about 2009 offers

There is approx 30 million households in the UK and Sky has 9 million active customers so they are in approx 1/3 of UK households.

The crunch time is when Sky will be chasing new customers and there just won't be any customers left who want Sky no matter what and old customers who don't want to go back.

Then I expect there will have to be a change how their offers will be done.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
