Currys Offer Sky HD Box For 149 + 30 Install

      Unconfirmed

I have just been made aware of an offer from Curry's of a Sky HD box for 149 with 30 install if you buy a TV from Curry's.

Apparently Curry's are doing the same as the Sky+ allowing you to order it without a TV having to be purchased.

Further details when I have them.

Went to Currys this morning and got the leaflet.

      Sky+ box 74.50, Sky HD box 149.50

But you need to buy a TV (HD TV for HD Box)

Also set up cost of 30 for new customers and 60 for existing customers upgrading.

I can confirm that Comet have the exact same offer.

Currys demanded that a buy a TV, however Comet did not care.

The HD offer is good, however the man in Comet said it was recently 99.

The Sky+ offer is not as good as the recent 49 deal. So it might be best hanging on for a better offer.

      Hope this helps someone.

Re: Currys Offer Sky HD Box For 149 + 30 Install

Im wondering, charging current customers 60 to upgrade but new customers only 30 for a full installation is a bit of a rip aint it?

Lets face it what is actually needed to upgrade?.... Oh yer take the old box out put the new box in and err put your viewing card in. Crikey thats the quickest 60 they must have ever made, on top of which your also tied into a 12 month contract...

They have to run a second feed from your dish to your new box

Not if you are upgrading from $ky+ to $ky HD.

Even if I only had a single LNB connected I am still capable of adding a dual Lnb and running a second cable to my box. Perhaps $ky could offer a self install option instead of forcing me to buy something I do not need.

Re: Currys Offer Sky HD Box For 149 + 30 Install

I think Sky argue that existing customers have already had the 'new customer' subsidy and you can't expect to get the subsidy a second time. I also suspect they won't allow DIY upgrades (even from Sky+ where you have the cables in place) because they want to ensure the quality of HD reception is excellent and an installer can check this as he connects the HD box - plus they want to sell you multiroom.

Compared to other HD receivers with HDD the Sky HD box is not expensive and has a much better interface. Even at Sky 'list' prices.

They do allow DIY upgrades. When our sky+ box failed, we bought a HD box from a friend, phoned sky to activate our card and turn on sky+. They did mention HD subscription but we simply told them we didn't have a HD ready TV and just wanted to use the box for sky+. Sorted with no further questions asked
