Sky to Close BE Broadband Email and Webhosting in July 2014

Sky to Close BE Broadband Email and Webhosting in July 2014 - ISPreview UK
Customers who have been migrated from BE Broadband to Sky Broadband’s network, specifically those who had taken the extra BE Webhosting service, have been told that their old email addresses (@bethere.co.uk) and webspace will cease to function on 31st July 2014.

According to Sky, the not entirely surprising move (the future of @bethere.co.uk addresses has been uncertain even since Sky’s acquisition of O2′s consumer fixed line base) is because “only a few people” are using the services and the operator wants to remove the “increased costs” of keeping it alive.

The BE Usergroup notes that Sky has setup two FAQ pages for the change – one for BE Webhosting and the other for BE Email. As a general rule we always recommend that broadband subscribers who want webspace or email choose a dedicated provider, of which there are many inexpensive options, rather than taking the option provided by your ISP. Using your ISPs email and web services can make it harder to switch broadband provider when problems occur.

No compensation will be available, especially for those impacted by the BE Webhosting closure.

Does this include closure of the Be Customer Forms?

Since many were being blocked automatically once their O2/Be accounts were closed, I'd expect that those forums have become a ghost town.

      No worries.

There will become a time when it will close though as the forum will have served its purpose.

Anyone from ex-Be staff reading thanks for the years of excellent service you gave me.

Seems the forum is blocked now, trying to access it gives a message about avatar being shut down.
