Roku 2 was the device that made me cancel Sky! One box to stream them all (well, almost!) Absolutely no regrets whatsoever about binning Sky+HD in favour of streaming.

Early July marks the end of a 6 months entertainment voucher that I got (with a NOW TV black box) from Amazon last Christmas for 20, and have just applied another 6 months entertainment voucher that I picked up (with a NOW TV Black box) for 20 from Argos last Easter. So that's 12 months of access to all the Sky entertainment channels that we require for the grand sum of 40 British Pounds! Big first year saving (of more than 200) over the 21 per month we were paying to Sky for the Original bundle...

I've got stacks of vouchers and roku boxes.... bought them for the Plex app as I've ripped my 600 dvd/blu rays and all my music onto a NAS. That's one of the best things I ever did. I got rid of movies at that point and pick up the new releases off ebay (eg 8 for The Revenant on Weds when it was only released on Mon).

The new NowTV has a freeview tuner built in (we assume) and that's a bit of a seller for me as I hate having to switch around devices.

I think the only thing that is stopping me is losing sky+ and specifically series links. Be interesting to see what the freeview tuner can do if a usb harddrive is plugged into the Roku4.

Big thumbs up for Plex. We've done the same here. Server on Mac mini, client on Roku etc.

Have actually found a couple of Roku apps that supply most of the Freeview channels over the internet - "TVCatchup" and "FilmOn - Unofficial" (both unofficial and both courtesy of blog.artesea.co.uk).

As for loss of series links, we have mitigated that by using the "My TV" section on the NOW TV website and app (all platforms except Apple TV). We just add shows that we're watching to the "Watchlist" within "My TV" and it's clear which episodes are watched & unwatched when you click though on a specific show. Everything you've watched shows up in the "Recently Watched" section too. So loss of series links is not a big deal.

Ah, I never knew about the MyTV section, will have to look at that.

Plex is amazing. I've got the PMS on a synology NAS with 18TB of HDD in it (and fast running out). I've got various clients... a mac mini with OpenPHT for the 65in TV, then I've got a Samsung telly upstairs which uses Orca's samsung app. Then a mix of Roku's dotted elsewhere. Not a huge fan of the new interface on PMP and the Roku's but they assure me that they are going to revert to vertical scrolling soon.

I rip the blurays 'as is' using makemkv for the big screen, then have a second mp4 version via handbrake for all other devices. The mp4 is converted to 5mbps so I can also stream it when I was away with work.

Yep, I've seen TVCatchup and FilmOn.... what's the quality like? I'm hoping the Roku4 version of NowTV will have freeview HD.

Haven't made much use of them but PQ is ok.

If the new box doesn't have Freeview HD, it will be pointless and will flop! Sky may move in mysterious ways sometimes, but I somehow doubt they will let it fail!

      Let's see what 29/06 brings.
