Re: sky broadband on but cannot connect wireless
I have very limited experience with Macs I'm afraid, but the first thing to try would be to connect directly to the router with the Ethernet cable. If that works you know its something to do with the router Wireless settings (your laptop wireless is obviously okay as you are connecting to your neighbour's), if that doesn't work either its the router/wiring/connection.

Re: sky broadband on but cannot connect wireless
If there's nothing with ethernet then it suggests there's a problem with your wiring, router or (external) connection.
Can you log into the router? (try it wired and wireless)

The router isn't connecting to the sky server. This could mean you have set up the wiring incorrectly, the router is faulty or the line has not actually been activated properly. (Probably. I had this and sky had not activated my line.)
Did you move over from another ISP? That's what happened to me, the Internet light was solid green on my router but it wasn't connecting to sky. If I plugged in my old router I could still connect to my old ISP. The Internet light on the router only meant that it was talking to a server, not necessarily Sky's, and I got no connection because it was the wrong account credentials.
Could mean a line "hijack". It took me 4 hours (over 3 weeks) on the phone to Sky support until someone eventually figured out what I was telling them from the beginning...Last edited by stevelaw; 15-02-07 at 01:47 PM.

Re: sky broadband on but cannot connect wireless
i am assured by sky that i am on, all my lights are correct and my wiring is spot on. if my lights are on, does that mean i am definately activated???? thanks for trying to help me mate, its highly appreciated.
going edit mad here!!!! lol.
i have just moved from that ****** that is tiscali, it hurts to even type it.
it took 6 weeks for them to get their tags of my line, i am told thats done and skys are now on in place, my activation date is today, sky says i am on, i am getting the light, tiscali's getting the bird and i am still flummoxed!!Last edited by fidget; 15-02-07 at 01:51 PM.

Re: sky broadband on but cannot connect wireless
Sorry, I added more info while you were posting
Just because the lights are all on it doesn't necessarily mean that its activated (with sky) no. It wasn't in my case yet everyone I spoke to was adamant that it was activated - because it said it was activated on the screen and they had sent me a bill - that's what activated means to them.
You might have a different problem of course, but its exactly the same as my situation from the info we have so far.
Double check all your connections. If you have a modem from a previous ISP, give it a try. If its what happened to me you need tier 3 (I was promised a callback 6 times, including one from a supervisor, none of them actually called, in the end I had to stay on hold for 1 hour when tier 2 put me through to T3 - best of luck...)

Re: sky broadband on but cannot connect wireless
3 Tiers (tears) of Sky Tech Support. Each lower tier basically has different techniques to block/delay you getting through to the next tier. But then I'm jaded from my experience

You may well have a good connection, all that tells you is that the laptop is talking to the router. The problem is that the router is not talking to the Internet.
