New user slow speeds Broadband Connect

      Hi all.
      Hope you can help.
I recently moved form Orange who I got an ok consistent 4-6mb speed from.
So I expected at least the same from any supplier.
Having joined Sky connect, I seem to be having very slow speeds however.
      I am wired into a dsl 2640s
my router stats are showing i should be getting about 8mb, but my speedtest results are way down, rarely going over 1mb, with my ping in the hundreds.
I only really web browse, but do plat xbox live, although it is unplayable since moving to sky.

I have tried various cables, different computers and my xbox, and have tested the master socket, but no joy.
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful for the suggestions

Re: New user slow speeds Broadband Connect

You'll go through a ten day training period upon joining connect, but to be honest you'll probably find your issue is down to connect itself. There are capacity issues and throughput is horribly managed during peak times. There are a few threads around the forum documenting how bad it has gotten.

To be sure, if you go to Test Result and then follow the instructions. When it asks for a username, use the lan MAC on the bottom of the router followed by @skydsl i.e. 00F3942F923@skydsl. Paste in the results to make sure the profile is fine - no doubt it's probably 7150kbps, but no harm in checking.

Thumbs down Re: New user slow speeds Broadband Connect

All i can say is best of luck!

been on Connect for 15 months, and never got a consistent connection speed. my line only holds 4.5mb, and the average i've had from sky connect is 1.3mb.

had to contact every month to ask why my speeds are so slow and i always got the excuse "BT are traffic managing our bandwidth." BT can only traffic management their network, Sky still traffic manages heavily during peak times, so dont expect to get above 1mb at evenings and weekends.

i did get 3.6mb once for 10 mins at 3.44am on a wednesday. that was a good day.

i'm sure the other sky broadband packages on their network are better, but Connect is horrendous, for whatever reason Sky choose to give you. Hopefully you'll have a better experience.

My parents, on Connect, seem to get 5Mbps 24/7 - or they have when I've been around. Will check this weekend as I'm visiting

Re: New user slow speeds Broadband Connect

      Thanks all,
I will have another good look tonight.
One thing I dont get, if the router is showing a downstream connection of about 7mb, why am I not seeing that speed on my computer?
Having looked through the forum at other peoples test results, when ever they have a low speed test, that is also reflected in the router result.
The guy I spoke to at Sky implied the problem was between the router and my mac. Having tested different computers and cables this is not the case.
      thanks again

Re: New user slow speeds Broadband Connect

I was connected about 2 weeks ago, so should be out of my 10 tests, i checked my speeds regularly during the test period and was often getting up to 6.5mb, but it seemed to drop toward the end of the 10 days and has been low ever since.

Re: New user slow speeds Broadband Connect

Your sync speed is the highest it will go on connect. However, you have an IP profile which governs your throughput. As I said, it's probably spot on (7150kbps) and your issue is down to the way connect is traffic managed, but it's best to check nothing else is wrong. Try the bt speed test as I mentioned and post your results.
