iMac OS Version 10.6.2
Recently purchased the top of the range iMac but cannot get sky email account to configure with desktop mail. Have tried all options with imap.tools.sky.com using Port 993 OR pop.tools.sky.com using Port 995 using alternatives of turning SSL on OR turning it off when trying to configure/ to send or receive messages. Sky broadband appears to be blocking the SMPT as I can't get messages in or out on my desktop. Have run a Port Scan test on the iMac so it's not an Apple problem. Any ideas out there? I can still access my sky email account through the internet but not ideal as I want my sky emails coming onto my desktop.
Thank you!

Re: iMac OS Version 10.6.2
Most likely it will be a setup issue, Sky wouldn't block access to their own email servers. Have you had this account setup on a pc before? If not you need to enable the pop/ imap access via the sky email and tools page online before it will work through your email software.
Other than that do you get any error messages? Are you using the full email address as the user name?

Re: iMac OS Version 10.6.2
Hi
Have tried every server setting and configuration possible but nothing is working. Will need to get a Mac expert in to configure my account. Sky Servers just aren't being recognised for incoming or outgoing mail on my sky email account. My web based email account is receiving and sending emails fine but I want all of this on my desktop. The sky email account has never been used on any other PC as we are new to sky. I'm advised other Mac users are having the same issue with sky broadband interface. Does not recognise POP server OR when you tick the SSL box it won't let emails come in. Thanks for your help anyway.

Have you used the settings on the Web interface to enable POP or IMAP, whatever you want to use? Have a loook at these tutorials -

Re: iMac OS Version 10.6.2
Hi
Thanks to all. Eventually got in touch with sky today. It was all down to the fact the disable IMAP account button had not been clicked to disabled on my web email file mail settings. Now sorted and a big thank you to the tech guys at Sky!

Re: iMac OS Version 10.6.2
So the basic problem was that you had both IMAP and POP enabled? Its something to ask future users with problems, as it is easy to miss.

Re: iMac OS Version 10.6.2
Now you've got it working with POP have you tried IMAP? It's much better at keeping things in sync as it synchronises folders as well as mail, so things will be in the same place through the web interface and the Mail app.

Re: iMac OS Version 10.6.2
Hi
I do take your relevant point but to be honest I'm too scared to touch anything having been without the proper configuration for so long. Thanks again. I'm not a tech so all help is appreciated.
