      New User and Broadband speed

      Hi

My Sky Broadband account went live on 29 June, transferring from BT so early days yet, however a question regarding speeds.

My exchange, according to the exchange checker is .05 miles from my house.

With BT I was getting speeds of around 7.0Mbps for downloads, so far with Sky I am getting speeds of 3.78Mbps for downloads.

Is this likely to improve given how most ISP's are crowing about speeds of up to 20Mbps?

I am using an iMac 2.8ghz with SL 10.6.4

      Any ideas would be welcome.

      We need stats:

How to get your router statistics

You're likely to be set to 4096/512 at the moment as this is the start speed before DLM trains the line. Refer to your welcome letter for more information or the DLM sub-forum on here.

      STATS HERE:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 115592 143352 0 0 0 24:41:08
      LAN 144895 118428 0 0 0 24:42:16
      WLAN 2908 94 0 0 0 24:41:49
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.5 db 11.2 db
Noise Margin 14.3 db 23.0 db
      Poll Interval: (secs)

I have just run another speed test Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and got a figure of 3.75Mbps for the download speed.

I'll dig out my letter from Sky and look at the DLM sub forum.

Thanks for your reply by the way.

Well, you are indeed set at 4096/512. For the fact the line's set to adsl2plus, I'd say DLM has probably just started. Give it around 10 days and you should see a pretty nice speed from those stats.

      Thanks for the info.

I will wait like a "good little boy" for the speed to arrive.

Post your stats from the test socket as your noise margin seems pretty low for the attenuation your getting.

Re: New User and Broadband speed

Pardon the bump. I too am having the same issue, I just wondered whether over time your speed did in fact boost to 10+. I'm JUST out of the 10 day period, although I did reset and turn off my router in that time. I'm still showing the same stats as you with the 4900/512 initial speeds.
