    IMAP/POP server rejects password

    This is a discussion on IMAP/POP server rejects password within the Mac users forums, part of the Sky Broadband help category; Aye, don't worry! I just meant that I'm getting the same problem whether I set up the account as POP ...

      Aye, don't worry! I just meant that I'm getting the same problem whether I set up the account as POP or IMAP: have tried both, separately. And, as above, user name includes @sky.com; "unlockcaptcha" trick doesn't work; have tried deleting keychain items etc. I'm stumped! Anyhow, thanks for your replies.

      Hi folks. Just in case anyone else has this problem, I thought I'd post a conclusion to this thread... After some unsuccessful phone calls and emails with Sky, today I spoke to a very nice young man called Simon and my problem is finally solved! It seems that (as had been suggested in this thread) the account information on the Google servers was out of sync with the (more up-to-date) information on the Sky machines - a problem, according to Simon, that IS known to happen occasionally. So, my account details were reset across the system and now I can access my email with my mail client of choice!

      Also, having moved from PlusNet (where I'd been for a long time), I had been very apprehensive about what the service & support might be like at Sky. So, it's nice to be able to say that the service from Sky today was great: good to have your prejudices/fears overturned, once in a while...! Cheers - Ashley.

      I have a MacBook (Mac OS X 10.6.4) and MacMail Version 4.3.
      I have now been on the phone to SKY for 3 days about 2 hours each day. The guy has tried to be very helpful but I have got no where.
      I got Sky broadband on Sunday and requested to keep my old e-mail address previously with Homecall. At the moment I can receive e-mails but can't send them. I keep getting the rejected password message from the Sky server.
      Together with a Sky guy I have renewed the account 3 times, changed passwords twice and tried changing port numbers all to no avail.
      Has anybody else got troubles like this or can anybody help me?
