Macbook wirless connection thrown out when other laptops sign in

      Please can anyone help me.

We have a Sagem router (Sky max) and whenever we are wirelessly connected to the internet from the Macbook, whenever anyone logs in on the Sony Vaio laptop, the Macbook completely loses connection.

We can usually run the Sony Vaio, Fujitsu Amilo laptop and PC all at the same time with no connection problems - the problem is just with the Macbook, irrespective of whether there is just one or all of the computers on line at any one time.

      We cannot understand it.

However, the Macbook connection remains stable when using the ethernet cable.

I would be very grateful of any help or tips offered.

      Many thanks

Re: Macbook wirless connection thrown out when other laptops sign in

      Could be two things.

      1. Sounds like noise. I have been using Macbooks/Pros for several laptops now, the more aluminium they add the worse the signal. The Sagem router is simply not powerful enough to cut through the enclosure of your Macbook at this range.

If you run something like iStumbler you can see the signal to noise in your area. For me it was so bad I had to buy Homeplugs instead (ethernet via power sockets in house). Alternatives include external wireless card/stick for your laptop, or an external arial.

      2. DHCP assignment. When you connect to a router, wireless or wired, it gives you an internal IP address something like 192.168.0.2. Without that you are connected to a router, but unable to access the internet. If you check your router admin screens you should have it set to automatically assign this, and in the OSX Network Preferences pane open the Advanced screen and make sure you have "Using DHCP" selected in the TCP/IP screen.
