No thats all right NR. I could get on the site o.k but it refused to return a ping. I was just looking at their cat and came across the heater and throught what a good idea for those who may be infirmed, or in my case to idle to get up and turn it down

I deleted form values and downloads.plist from home/library/safari. Deleted com.apple.safari.plist from home/library/preferences, and repaired permissions. One of those steps, I suspect repairing permissions, got it working again.
