Sounds obvious to me too really but what can the problem be?

It can see about 5 other wireless networks, even a Sky one. It works perfectly elsewhere on a Netgear router (my last address).

Log in to the router and check that the SSID is being broadcast. If it's not, you won't pick it up in the site survey.

It definately is, I have tried switching it off and on - the Sky tech asked me to do this too and XP picks it up fine.

When using a WEP it is necessary to type $ before the code on a mac airport connection, may be something similar on WPA
I've had similar problems, I have purchased Devolo power plug system. This delivers ethernet connection via your mains supply, it really works and is faster than wireless

The problem was the router...has not dropped the connection since I got a new one from Sky

Never had to put a $ on any of the many wireless connections I have tried, WEP or WPA
