Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
Hi
I'm having awful problems using Sky SMTP in Entourage X.
This has only happened since the server move to the Google/Sky server.
I used to be able to send messages from a non-sky email address, however when I send emails now from my non-sky email address in Entourage they are sent as From my sky email address so all replies go to that instead of the non-sky email address.
I've tried everything, been on the phone to Sky for ages who seem to only know the phrase 'We do not support this and cannot give you any help'.
If the move to the new server was going to cause this problem I think Sky customers should have been warned.
Has anyone else seen this happen, or worked out how to fix it??
Thanks very much in advance
Kat

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
There is no fix as this is how the google apps email system works, if you have a domain and want to only see your domain in the from line then you need to use your own domain smtp servers. The sky email system is a part of the sky package and it does what it is designed to do, it allows customers a sky email address and the ability to send email using that email account through the sky email system.

Hi
Thanks for your quick reply.
I get what you're saying but this used to work before Sky changed servers!
Thanks

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
I had the same thing. Totally crap. I now use my email host as my SMTP server. This is the only way to avoid it....

Yep because Sky were using their own servers which were using standard SMTP ports, the new google provided service uses Googles servers and SSL authentication. Therefor on the new servers it will not work.

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
i only wish I had come across this forum before the, what seemed like, hours of telephone calls to Sky. The support is useless. I can read webpages as well as they can. I've been to school, too!
Yes it did work splendidly until the change to Google. Yes they should have notified me as a user. I will now use my domain supplier for smtp.
However, I will also be switching from Sky as it is just a load of plop!

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
If you had a SMTP service for your domain why were you using the sky residential service for relaying email? Surely using the domain service would have been better all round for control etc? For a maximum of £10 per month I think Sky give people a very good deal on their residential broadband service.

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
Thank you for your comments Jessie Lou.
If I had known Sky employees read this forum so quickly, I would have used this method for solving this problem earlier. You appear to be very up to date with Sky issues. Far more so than the employees I spoke to on the phone.
As for the domain issue, I simply have a domain for preference and ease of email address, as well as web hosting. The domain name refers to my family name, something I prefer. This is nothing to do with the fact that when I took out my contract with Sky, the smtp provision was fine. It has been changed without suitable notification. That is just poor customer relations.
Having my own domain name and using my ISP to send email is perfectly reasonable and should not carry the implications that the Sky provision now enforces.
I reiterate, Sky is plop!

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email
There is a way round it, you need to enter a reply email address in the outlook account settings rather than leaving it blank i.e. enter your none Sky email address in that box, replys will come back to your none Sky email address. Then enter your Sky email account via sky.com and go to account settings, in there you can taylor what the person at the recieving end see's as your email address i.e. enter your none sky email address there.
