there's been a lot of information about the servers going off - hence the emails sent to those using the old servers to switch to the new ones since last year when it was announced the google system was going live...if you didn't read it then thats your own fault unfortunately

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email

I would hardly say there was a lot of information. Everytime I rang the so-called support I never once had anybody explain this at all. And they never helped me at all. Sky need to bring the technical support for broadband back to the UK. To trained IT staff…

Why they can't have support that is as good, and easily accessible, as this website is a disgrace. This site is a god-send. On the Sky site you go round in circles and find nothing.

However: Option 7 of adding the new accounts via the sky webmail does work, thankfully, but after a week of either not being able to send email, or being able to find replies (that had went to a sky email address I could never ever get to work via POP), I'm peeved me say the least.

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email

I've been having a bit of a battle with the new mail system but i have got it working (for now at least)

if you want to send email from a different email address (for example, in my case my university email) from mail.app you need to:
log into your Sky gmail account, then towards the top right next to your email address click "Mail Settings"

under the accounts tab there is the option to add another email address (it will send an email to that address to verify that you own it)

this will allow you to send emails through smtp.gmail.com from the addresses you add.

the just use the same smtp setting ( in mail preferences/accounts/outgoing male server) as you would if you were adding a sky email account

I'm affraid i can't exactly remember all the steps involved, it was about a week ago when i did it - i've been struggling to get my machine to even ping the gmail servers till today (i think it was a conflict with peerguardian, but i'm not 100% sure)

anyway, i can confirm that it is possible to send email from other accounts, so i hope that provides others with a bit of hope…

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email

because they save millions a second by getting woodlice to do it. and they dont care a **** about you, welome to a definition of what modern day support is. "there only there to stop you topping yourself, not to sort your problem out" if it seems likley that you will kill yourself , then you get a technician.

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email

Still no answer - If I cannot use my own domains emails to come to my computer then we'll have to change from SKY and use another provider. Last time I was here I had to use webmail and wow that takes up so much time since I have several domains/email addresses. Its almost 2010, SKY must be in the 21st century with the technology by now. So again I ask, what is the Outgoing mail (SMTP) is use to use my own domain/email?

Re: Sending message with Sky's SMTP from non-sky email

just noticed a reply to sending or sending mail from another email address from frogblast - there is no way in hell I want to use googlemail to send my emails - not only is there no privacy its still webbased.

doesn't solve any isses of using our own email addresses!! and only helps sky and google make more money on having more users = more advertising.
