NEW Apple SMTP problems

Hi, Thanks in advance…

My Apple Mail suddenly stopped sending mail yesterday. It's has worked fine for over 18 months. After contacting Sky (twice), I am no further. Their support is poor at best. Especially regarding Mac… This site is a god send!

Basically, they gave me the smtp.tools.sky.com (port 465) settings to use. Still doesn't work. Tried using port 25, 465, checking and unchecking SSL etc etc.

It's nothing to do with Mail, as I also tried my old Outllook Express on classic, and Entourage in osx.

I noticed another thread that stated there were problems until Feb 8th. Sky never mentioned this to me. Has anybody else had any sudden problems?

Thanks…

Re: NEW Apple SMTP problems

Wow, thanks. It worked. It sent the 10 messages I had in the outbox from yesterday. Impressive!

However, 2 steps forward… LOL

Now one of the 4 accounts I use in Mail will not receive. It did until tonight. It asked for a password, which it doesn't usually, but it's not accepting it. I've tried re-doing it and re-doing it. No luck. I even checked in to its webmail to check my settings, and it seems ok there.

Any ideas?

Re: NEW Apple SMTP problems

FALSE ALARM

Got it sorted. The other email account didn't like the SSL settings (995) in advanced, just unchecked it and kept it to 110 and now its fine.

Thanks a lot for this. Much apprecaited. I wonder why it happened anyway?

Re: NEW Apple SMTP problems

Like you I have found this completely frustrating. Currently I have hit a block because I cannot access my email account in sky.com to allow POP access. I am told by sky that their email systems will be fully operational by close of play on 8 Feb. Endless hours on the phone this weekend I fear.
Only when I can access my email account will I be able to try the fixes from the sky help posts.
Any more bright ideas out there?

Re: NEW Apple SMTP problems

Good luck! Honestly, Sky were less than useless when I spoke to them. I seriously doubt they had even seen a Mac. No one mentioned the 8th Feb server thing, I hope they haven't been telling you porkies.

I've had Sky over 18 months and never at any point have I been able to use my sky email address via Mail. Then the other day it just stopped sending everything. The instructions on that other page were great, lifesaver, I was actually seriously thinking of quitting sky.

Good luck…
