IM problems. ''the following message could not be delivered-a connection error occ..'

hi,

iv tried using microsoft messenger for mac and adium (another instant messaging app.) and i am havin problems with messages not being sent. i keep gettin ''could not send the following message-a connection error occured'' or something along those lines. on both programmes! drives me insane because it totally ruins the conversation and i get called ignorant by the other person for not replying!

any one else have similar problems?

at this point in time its so annoying im going to end up ringing sky and cancelling! my primary use for the internet is IM!

any help would be much appreciated.

I am on a mac too - can you recreate the error and post the full and exact message on here please?

I see this problem listed a lot on Google. Adium in particular. Is it every message, or just some?

I don't use either program, but if somewhere in the settings you can choose NOT to use a proxy server, then try that to see what happens. Also, make sure you are using HTTP method.

If that fails, you could try to change your ID from R.I.C.K.Y. perhaps that may be a cause?

iv tried takin the full stops from my name and here is a printscreen. i dont know why it blocked the messages below...judging from the reasons people were sayin on the links you gave me...




not how when i added the fullstop on the last message it went through?

As I say, I don't use the programs, but I have seen it suggested that under settings in adium (and presumably msn) you can choose to send the messages via http (port 80) instead of the usual IM port, and that this seems to have fixed the problem for a few people.
