I agree. I was letting you know this so that you wouldn't take this option due to the penalty charge. If switching your line rental to Sky you can take advantage of Sky's line rental in advance which for 12 months is the equivalent of 9.75 per month. BT are currently charging a fee of 40 to transfer telephone services back from an LLU provider but this is being waived for customers who also take broadband.

If you make a lot of calls then BT is probably the cheaper option as they have to allow caller override CPS providers, whereas Sky do not and Sky Talk is expensive. Paying upfront for line rental with Sky in advance may offset this.

You don't have to stay with BT though, any BTOR line provider will do so long as they don't interfere with the broadband (check first). I believe Primus still allow 3rd party broadband suppliers on their lines, rental only is 6.99 currently and allow CPS carriers at present, but contact them to confirm.

An advantage with Sky is you can haggle with them for cheaper deals, BT won't, at least not the last time I tried.

It really depends on where you are calling.

Whilst the fact that I have to pay for the 0845 numbers is a nuisance, if I had a lot of people to call in the USA, I could call them for as little as I call my friends in the UK. This is because Sky's "Sky Talk Unlimited" package allows free calls for up to 1 hour to both groups.

The really daft thing is that I can call a mobile in the USA or Canada for free, yet I am charged a large fee for calling a mobile in the UK.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
