      Right down to brass tacks then

      Hi I would like to know a simple Yes or No to the following Question are Home plugs Worth it

      thinking of getting 2 x 500mbps Kits (4) for my setup as follows

      * 2 x Wifi IP Cameras
      * Wifi PC
      * Several Wifi Portable Devices

      so as follows
      1 Router to Power Socket = 1 Single
      1 Wifi PC 2 Router = 1 Single
      1 Wifi Cam 2 Router = 1 single
      1 Wifi Cam 2 Router = 1 single

      Tech Specs are
      * Netgear DGN2200 v1 Outputting 300mbps
      * 1 Wired PC
      * 1 Wifi PC linked at 300mbps via Edimax PCIE card
      * 2 Wifi IP Camera's Used for Home Security
      * Several Wifi Devices Eg Phones and a Tablet

      within 50 yards of my router there are 14 Wifi Signals from other Routers all using channel 1>10

      So Basically all i want to know are these kits worth it Yes or No

      We have been using NetGear XAV2001 + 2 * XAV1004 since 2012 with no problems at all. It works superbly - a far cry from our first home network (10Base2 Cheapernet coax through the roof space from ISDN2 router to my son's PC).

      These 200Mbps devices link at ca. 180 Mbps down / 140 up to the TV room (via Ethernet mini-switch to TV, Sky box, Blu-ray player, Roku, home cinema box, ...), a bit less to the PCs in the dining room, which has a longer cable run from the XAV2001.

      And that's my one word answer.

      Yes, they are.

      Note due to the forum software a one word answer is not possible, unless you take liberties with the spelling. ;(

      Re: Right down to brass tacks then

      Hi just an update i have setup the first half of my PLA network and have found no difference to WiFi infact WiFi is actually better. And these story iam reading regarding banning PLAs is worrying. Thus I've decided to sell them before they are banned.

      Re: Right down to brass tacks then

      Not sure what PLA refers to, but if you mean a Homeplug circuit, then that is not the opinion of the majority of users. As nearly all your devices, bar one PC are wifi I assume you have used wifi extender homeplugs. If this is the case, it is possible having so many wifi points is causing interference and actually slows things down.

      The rumours of homeplugs being banned have been circulating since their introduction and given that there are now several millions being used around the world I doubt if there is any chance of them being banned.
