I've always known it called Distributed Computing, never heard of it called Folding at home.

What would be the benefit or incentive to the user, points were mentioned?

Perhaps 146Kg would be a better person to answer these questions?

The points are purely for fun.
You compare your points to other team members in a table and the natural instint to be No.1 kicks in by leaving your PC folding longer or purchasing better hardware in order to return the work unit sooner for more more points. It can get addictive. (And it gives you a sense of doing something good).
Distributed Computing is a blanket description of all forms of similar work, FAH is looking for cures for Cancer, Parkinsons Alzheimer's etc. SETI is looking for Extra Terrestrial Life. They are both forms of Distributed Computing.

Mods - any chance of putting a link in for this ? The very 1st page of "..." says it all.
